We just use off-the-shelf noise machines. They have heartbeat settings, white noise, oceans. This one, specifically.

I get it if you want something bespoke, you fucking heartbeat snob, you.

But these work great. We have three...one in our room, and one each in the kids' rooms. But I frequently end up in the guest bed next to my toddler, who sucks at sleeping, so I bring my phone in and put some brown noise on via an app. By the time I leave for work, all four beds are hissing away like some digital apocalypse.

This is a really good suggestion.

My rug rats always liked napalm death. Morbid Angel was ok. Meshuggah was ok. But napalm was awesome. It's just a wall of noise for little dudes and they love that shit. They hated stuff like Unexpect, Dillinger and Emperor though. That sort of stuff was just to stop-start and random. But constant blast beats is good.
I can imagine sunn o))) could be pretty good too. As long as you play the stuff without vocals. Pretty sure Attila would ensure they don't sleep for a few years.

These days at ages 2 and 4 they dig gnr, acdc and thrash. And of course Meshuggah. Anything where they can bang their heads with a good 4/4 beat. But they go batshit over the Pippi Longstocking songs.

My first two (who are now 11 & 13) sucked at sleeping, but since they were toddlers so much has changed. We always tried to keep things calm and quiet to keep them asleep and nowadays they (medical professionals) encourage sound to relax the babies since it's so noisy in the womb. Since I recorded the audio from the sonograms of the heartbeat and the swishy stuff I figured maybe, just maybe I'd luck out with this one and use those sounds to get her conditioned to sleeping.

It's a very cool idea. I wonder how 'accurate' it is--like if there's a bunch of mechanical hiss from the recordings. Really, what you should do is loop the audio, but process it with a) a modular synthesizer, or b) a ton of pedals in real-time. Your kid could learn to soothe him- or herself to sleep by riding delay pedals to the brink of oscillation.

Yeah thats what i'm saying. If you break his sound palette early, he will no doubt be a musical genius. Hell the newborn brain can more than likely process hendrix better than most humans.
