the fact that you're using a fretless is already so mad. That combined with pitch effects could do some cool shit. Especially like octave stuff, playing micro tones into an octave down pedal to get it to glitch out could be cool.
Harsh digital distortions like a boss metalizer? What about some kind of MS20 type low pass filter so you can kick that on and suddenly have nothing but rattling low end and pretty much no actual notes?
I'd look in to some kind of blend/splitter type thing just to keep low end consistent if that's important to you? The coolest thing with pedals like that is you can then use the nastiest, junkiest distortions only on your top end yet still have the bass thundering along underneath.

@jrmy: your ideas sparked so much, thanks. I had never before even really heard or thought of the arion stereo chorus, but it seems great. Also, the sea machine was something I would not have thought of but that should have been on my radar all along. I wish either of these pedals had more bass demos kicking around on the internet, because in my experience choruses seem to hit bass very differently than guitar. Still, both are worth considering, and I guess this is part of why I want to start recording demos. Likewise, the Ibanez DML-10 was high on my radar for a minute after someone here did some demos of it. No clue why I forgot about it except that maybe it is super pricey, but that thing is absurd. W/R/T the DOD Boneshaker and Blower Box (and Mountainking) suggestions: I love my blower box, and I really have come to love the sound of "metal" distortions on bass at low gain as well as high gain (thanks to the blower box). I currently have a Blower Box and a Megalith clone among other weirder fuzzes, was wondering if there were any interesting lower gain drives that did weird shit. The Fuck has my curiosity piqued, but is substantially more money than I can put into a single OD at the moment. But everything about it seems marvelous; I love envelope sensitive effects.
Lordgalvar, for some reason every time I saw the Thunderbox I wondered what the hell it was for, but your suggestion makes so much sense. As does repoman's treble boost suggestion. Obvious ideas that would have went right past me. Will look into them. Also all the phaser suggestions, have to look into them but thanks!

Without touching on like 90% of what's said here, the Sea Machine is fucking awesome on everything. I use it for bass, vi, guitar, and synth and it blows my ce2 out of the water even on standard chorus settings

I can vouch for the CE-2, it's imo as warm and lush as a chorus can get. I loved the fact that it'so straight forward and dead simple, and doesn't mess too much with your clean/dry signal, which also makes it very bass guitar -friendly. If you don't mind some more bells and wistles though, you probably want to look elsewhere.
I just happened to have flipped my CE-2 in favor of something that can be a but more versatile and maybe even dab into more synthy/glitchy experimental sounds. Or maybe something more univibe-ish, haven't made up my mind yet.
Anyway, as far as no frills affordable dirt goes: I was surprised how good my Hotcake sounded on bass. At higher gain settings it can get dark and muddy on guitar, but that seemed to work out perfectly on bass.

Awesome! Glad to help. Crazy bass sounds are a cause near and dear to my heart, and thankfully there's some great stuff out there.
Do you follow Juan Alderete online at all? His Pedals and Effects channel has some great stuff, and he's obviously biased towards bass... occasionally he'll even to a fretless + effects bit:

Also, he's an official demo guy for Earthquaker Devices, but I've gone to see him do a demo session (he came to a shop near me last year), and he does not mince words when it comes to the low end - he straight up skips anything that he thinks doesn't give enough girth, or that he feels is boring.
EDIT: also, I forgot, he does a fretless thing on the Fairfield Circuitry Meet Maude, which I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE on bass:

Misty cave type sounds are super cool on bass. You don't have to lay down all that dough for one though, using something like the akai headrush or digitech timebender can get you pretty close IMO. Obviously the MC is way more controllable and sweepable for that one sound, but if it's gonna be used just every once in a while then a delay like that is an ok option? The headrush is really good for this too, just take the time course knob all the way down and fiddle with the time fine knob.

As someone who owns both I would not use the headrush to do the Misty Cave thing? If you can lay out a way to do it that would be pretty awesome.
But that was basically a joke, since (as far as I know) I'm sending P.V. my Misty Cave at some point.

If you wanted that resonant sound on the cheap I would try to find one of those ehx xo electric mistresses. They're sub $100 used and have the filter matrix feature. I havent used one myself but I've always wanted to. Sometimes digital delays can do the resonance thing well but some of them don't, depends on the algorithm.

Well, it doesn't sound exactly the same, it has a different tone to it, but it still resonates and shit in a similar way. This clip features bass and the headrush on the described settings, with a bass big muff IIRC. Same ballpark of sounds at least.

I actually have a timebender, but my synth player in this band uses it. I am picking up D.o.S.'s Misty Cave within my next paycheck or two, as I planned to get it for my solo-ish band where I am going to be doing a lot of MIDI and multitracking. So both are in the equation. Will respond more later.

Yea, totally not a problem for me with the misty cave and probably part of the reason I love it.
Filter Matrix on Electric Mistress doesn't sound the same. It kinda sounds like a static noisy notch filter on mine.
Koma BD-101 with squarewave modulating delay time kinda gets there too...
Analog Delay into a feedback looper (with a volume control) sounds pretty awesome too (just a separate thing not related to misty cave).
