I have a very very small guitar, a tiny Kawaï body (nearly half the size of my Jag) and a 22'5" MM neck...My son is 6 yo and the guitar is till too big for him.
He wants a guitar...a guitar that looks like a guitar, not a loog.
I think I'll buy him a Mini Strat!!!

Well if anything you can teach her to just kick people's asses for you when she's older.
Anything "mini," "junior." or 3/4 sized is what I'd suggest.

The Squire mini strats are low-budget-impact and are 22.75" scale. I think for kids that young, sub-24" is probably going to be easier for them

yeah she has been noodling with the nelson just making noises but she can't really get around it at all
mini strat may be the way to go
probably the ladybug guitar

Has anyone mentioned Daisy Rock yet?
Those're good for kids too.

I've got a Daisy Rock and I like it. The one I have isn't much smaller than a normal guitar and I'd still recommend a Mustang over it. Probably better quality than the $50 ladybug.

my biggest concern is buying her an instrument that she just doesn't end up playing

That's always the risk with kids, hbomb. That's why you have to get her a guitar that you'd also wanna play.
Daisy Rock makes a Lady Bug too. It's much more expensive than the Rondo, but probably much better quality. The scale length on the Daisy Rock Lady Bug is 22 1/2".
Yeah, a similar scale Fender-style instrument is a good recommendation. I know there's a Squier Mini Strat that looks decent and isn't that expensive.
