I love short scale basses for their thump. Long scales have a different feel and sound to me, more mellow no matter how much fuzz and heavy picking you do. Short scales need to be played fast and agressive in my opinon. I used to own a Höfner short scale with single coils. It had no sustain whatsoever, but each note was like a roundhouse kick to the face ...

Nelson Instruments wrote:Well just a heads up, part of my 2016 reboot is that I'm going to offer everything as a stripped down, satin finished base model, and then any options/upgrades will be listed.
So if you just want a solid instrument and, for example, don't care about paying extra for a glossy finish then you'll save some money!
Satin > Gloss.

Nice.

Personally, I prefer a medium scale like my pawnshop reverse jag

It might be worth noting that my "long scale" is 33.25", so it isn't as long as a fender.

I'm curious to why you made this choice, i'd like to hear more!

Love short scale basses.
The bass you posted is visually balanced in the design, but I find the 'fit and finish' to be overwhelming with the primary blue and the bling gold. 2Cents

The choice of scale length had more to do with wanting to offer a direct competitor in that zone since nobody else does.
Regarding the blue I have a couple thoughts. First off it was a color that was special ordered for a different instrument but I had enough that I did two other instruments in it.
Second, it is an impossible color to photograph accurately. In person it has more green in it and almost looks like a non-metallic version of placid blue or ocean turquoise.
But colors and color combos are subjective so some will like it and others won't. ;-) your opinion is valid and if you order an instrument from me I promise I won't force you to get that blue with gold.

I like the blue and gold, looks regal. My only problem is the bridge pickup is too far from the bridge, but it looks like it is in the "P" pickup spot, so nbd.
Both my basses are 34" scale, but that is just circumstantial; I thought the Jack Casady was short scale. I like short scale basses, I feel impressive when I can stretch my hand across the first five frets easily, but I don't like the lower string tension from the missing 4". I play in D standard with a heavy right hand and a .120 low string sometimes that feels limp.
I am going to agree with you Nelson Instruments that if you are making guitars with an updated Rickenbacker look, using there bass scale length of 33.25" is great.

I'm just getting the Teen Girl Squad reference now. Sometimes, I'm slow.

33" is the ideal scale for me, I'll only play 32" or 33" now. Less than 32" just feels too short, and over 33" (well, 33.25" is allowed...) isn't comfortable either.
If you make basses in this scale range, you're going on my list for future consideration.
