hmm, I just picked mine up like 4 months back for like 115+10 shipping in great shape. They sent like 4 bulbs with it too. I'd say hold out for a cleaner one at around the same price...(unless you get it for $40, then it is all good...haha)
The Flanger goes for around 200-250, so the prices for the phaser on reverb are really high right now.

Yea, saw that yesterday and it sounds descent, but...is it wrong to only want it because it goes with my decorating (California/Mexican Spanish Style + Day of the Dead)? I think it actually matches my fireplace mantle I built out of talvera tile...but I'd have to ask my wife because I am color blind...
I think it sounds alright...might take a chance on a digital pedal for once haha (outside of the usual pt2399 or whatever things).

Moog: used $150-$180 (beefy, spacey, and just a powerhouse pedal for experimental/Krautrock/soundscapes)
Blackout Effectors Whetstone: used $150-180 (does spooky, carnival-like vibrato, too)
VFE Tractor Beam: list $219, but you could get one from Rogue for under $200 (2/3/4 stage modes, it’s intuitive and easy to use, despite having several knobs. it’s heavenly with a Catalinbread Echorec)
That’s 3 premium and versatile phasing options, that you really can't go wrong with.
The Reflector does some of its most interesting and experimental sounds in the ‘Mirrors’ mode. In the other modes you can do more traditional chorus sounds, as well as fluttery, watery throbs.
I like to dime out most of the pots on the Sea Machine, but I dial the blend back to 40-60%, so I can get bubbly hiccups underneath a bed of delay and modulation. You could also use the SM for Sonic Youth and 80s/90s indie-alt coloration.
If it was in your budget, you might look into an Empress Nebulus. There are a ton of sounds bundled inside (chorus/Univibe/thru-zero flange/tremolo mode + presets).
The DOD reissue Phasor is an OK pedal, but quite limited. It sounded essentially identical to a vintage DOD I had previously used. Several other phasers can do all of the same sounds, though, plus a lot more. I just find the DOD redundant. If you’re really hell-bent on MXR phaser sounds, which I don’t personally endorse, you might look into the Mojohand FX Nebula—the orange, 3-knob version. I’ve seen them used for $80-115. I used one at a trade show and really liked it.
I don’t know how slow the Mad Professor phaser gets, but it’s voiced specifically for guitar, so it should handle your dirt smoothly. You can get one new with discount codes for about $150.
The Gilamondo might be something else you’d appreciate. It’s different from every other phaser I’ve owned. It’s a bit like having a cocked wah/fixed filter married to a phaser. There’s no learning curve. It just makes pleasing sounds.
To back up my advocation for these guys, here’s a fresh pic.

- Rainbow Machine > flanger
Warped Vinyl > flanger
rotary chorus > flanger
tremolo > flanger
flanger > flanger

How can everything be greater than flanger, even flanger?
I agree though, flanger is kinda of the greater stacker...

You know I was using the "greater than" sign as "into".
Too lazy to make it look nice like this: —>

I know...but it always looks like a shark going to eat the words and its stomach digesting the ones on the right (which is why they are lesser...).
words > words dissolving > cloaca
Or something.

echorec: where are you finding moogs that cheap? i've always been interested but have never seen one for 150. thanks for the suggestions. the other guitar player im jamming with uses some vfe dirt pedals that are killer. they hadnt been on my radar before but i'm impressed with what ive heard.
chank: what kinda flangers you like? i only ever used the boss and that was awhile back.
lord g: why aren't there any weirdo modulation / filter / synth pedals in your bst thread right now?
so the parts of songs where i'm missing some kinda motion is these slow sustained single note leads i'm doing. had practice today and kept thinking how cool some kinda synthy envelope filtered thing would sound. i used to stack an autowah into phase to get something along that line but was never satisified with its overall tone.
brb watching 4 hours of moog demos

Boss flangers are fine.
I really like the cheap 4 knob flangers from the Eighties. They definitely have their quirks, but if you can put up with 'em, they sound best to me. Also, because you can generally pick 'em up for not too much cash, they're not much of an investment. Good way to try stuff out without spending a lot.
You should look into the SubDecay NoiseBox or Octasynth. I really like those two pedals. May not work with all your other pedals, but they're real nice.

Octasynth is really nice. Noisebox sounds cool, but getting harder to find. Uglyface with LFO is an alternative though...
About the b/s/t...pm'd
Agreed on the four knob flangers...look for ones with the SAD1024 chip like MXR, Amdek and the like. They sound great. The SAD thing isn't a must, I just like them...

Since no one's mentioned it and you noted that you like the Phase 45.

The phaser is supposed to sound like a milder Phase 45.
Matt Weed from Rosetta uses one.

I like the Ibanez 10-series pedals, and I heard that the Bi-Mode Phaser in that line can go reeeaaallyy slow. If you can find one I bet it's cheap. Also has a switch for 6- or 10-stage phasing. Looks cool as fuck.
