I though it was just a reverb with a hold like the Old Blood pedals. If the dark star had a latching switch, with the pitch functions...

Nah, it's rather a freeze with reverb, I'd say. Had access to one for a while, really good pedal. You can turn reverb all the way down and use it as a straight freeze, if my memory serves me right.

I don't have an EHX Freeze, but can do that same effect with a Raptio, Big Sky, and Neunaber Stereo WET (there's an "Infinity Hold" patch through the customizer software) - and if your not changing notes a lot it's pretty easy to do with a looper, by recording an empty loop and doing overdubs with a volume pedal.

As lacking as it may be I'd say the Superego is the best available option. Just stick a Monotron in the loop with a Hall of Fame Mini or something similar.

Audio Damage has mentioned making a pedal version of their new freeze module, but one problem is that the name of the module is Spectre and there's that other thing that came out recently with that same name.

There's a hold/freeze buffer that's pretty seamless on most of the Time Bender modes (hold down the on/off footswitch, light turns yellow instead of green)

Because seamless "loop-less" freezing is hard to do.

Same with the dd-500, but it takes from other features.
