I want a Twin Reverb, but not.

I recently got a Music Man 65 1x12. I fuckin love it. Nails the twin sound pretty well to my ears and it really doesn't weigh that much. Maybe 45-50 lbs? It has a different speaker in it. The speaker kind of sucks, it's so muffled I have to have the bright switch always on which is weird.

I wouldn't say the Yamaha G100 sounds anything like a Twin. If anything it's a lot closer to the JC-120.

Can't recommend old music man amps enough. I almost bought a silverface twin but the craigslist dude kept bailing out on me so I bought this little thing for about the same price just with shipping. Maybe look into finding an RD 50 or a Sixty Five series one.

My current amp is a Yamaha G100 1x12. I like it well enough but it's been having issues and I don't know if it's worth my while to fix it, hence this thread. I might just take the speaker to use as an extension cab for whatever I buy to replace it. My amp doesn't sound nearly as good as the Twin I get to play on every once in a while, but it being old and dying might have something to do with that.

I'm looking at Mustangs, Hot Rods, YCV40/50's and Reverberockets now. They seem to be within my price range.

Which version is your G100 (Mk I, II, or III)? I have a G100 Mk II 2x12 that I had serviced a few months ago. The pots were dirty, the Q knob made a loud popping sound, and I wanted the caps looked at due to the age of the amp. They said the caps were fine and cleaned it all out for ~$75. Since then I installed a pair of CTS speakers from the 70s that I found found (pretty sure they were OEM Fender speakers) and it really changed the personality of the amp. For the first time ever the overdrive section doesn't sound like garbage and is pretty usable. IMO you should at least get your amp fixed, which will make selling it easier if you still don't like it, and try a different speaker.

Pretty sure it's a MKI, with an EV Force 12 speaker. I'm also pretty sure it just died. I cleaned it out myself a month or two ago but couldn't be bothered to check the caps. I don't have a lot of spare cash at the moment so I'd rather put it towards a new, actually working amp.

Seriously considering a Mustang III.

Deluxe Reverb is voiced pretty darned differently and much lower headroom (6V6s don't really end up being Twin-like).

The Musicman amps are neither small nor light!

212-sixty five is a helluva a lot lighter than a Twin Reverb nor is it's cabinet as deep. Alas, most MusicMan amps are powered by EL34s not 6L6s and the difference is pretty obvious at high volumes.

I agree, Musicman combos are both small and light when compared to most combos, imo.
I have an HD130 212 and it's my favorite amp I've ever owned.
Definitely not quite like a Twin but they sound amazing in their own way.

Mustang III will serve you well. Best piece of advice I can offer is ignore the 00-80ish presets - write over them.

The meat and potatoes are the "basic amp twin" in the 90ish to 100 range, tweak those, save them, use it as a "normal" amp from then on out.

Don't get caught up in the programming unless you want to!

I got a Musicman because I wanted the twin sound for cheap. I'm very happy with the sound, I think it's a 75 1x12. Though I definitely wouldn't consider it lightweight as some of you all have mentioned about the MMs.

The feel of something's weight is relative. But a MM combo doesn't weigh nearly as much as a Fender combo that's for sure. And I've had a few of each. Welcome to ILF btw!
