I opened this thread to see who started it (on my iPhone).
Was not disappointed.
As they say on ILF, the family that purples together...

I also think the Fingerprint Fuzz uses a water clear blue led for clipping.

Only if it is a Violet Ram's Head.
but then that would make it NOT a violet rams head......
Could the same not be said for ANY muff then?
that's a discussion for another thread...

Yes, please.

I bought some Ultraviolet LED's for rehouses and they are bad ass as far as the look goes. Bright as shit man. They seem to hurt your eyes even more than the standards. LOL. I can't imagine the ones that go into the guts would sound that much different? But I could be wrong. I've never really been impressed with any pedal that has LED clipping. I find it to be a bit harsh or too trebly. Even in muffs really. I'd like to hear the differences and see if you can even tell. I'm assuming there's got to be someone out there that's used something other than red, which I've seen in a hundred pedals. lol. Maybe it's because they are the cheapest? At least that's what I've seen. haha.

I am almost positive a few years ago I fooled around with a waterclear violet LED for clipping in a fuzz I was building. I can't remember exactly what it sounded like but I don't think it was as hard as something like a red LED

I do like LED clipping. I'm just wondering if some LED colors are slightly less harsh sounding than others. I don't know if I'm expecting a huge difference, but even a small one would be something worth investigating.
I've got a pre-gray spec DOD 250 clone that DannyW built which has LED clipping. It sounds fantastic. Sometimes it's just a little too bright sounding for me. I've never had the back off while playing it, but I think the LEDs are either red or clear. Interested to hear what other colors may sound like.

Please refer to your extensive catalog of build documents and report back, please.

They are - as well as different clipping threshold voltages, some colours have a sharper "knee" than others. Reds are near enough square and are Marshall's go-to in their solid-state stuff. My current favourite is orange/amber as the edges of the clipped waveform are rounded off in a way that makes everything sound more graceful, for want of a better word.

Thanks, pickletech, good to know. I'll have to get a pedal with socketed clipping diodes so I can experiment.

Make a rainbow fuzz with all of the colors. And a knob that crossfades between them.

That is an excellent idea.
So, sorta like this except with all LED clipping:
