It could, but I've never heard of it, I don't think it was intended to spring back. The fact that you have to put it back manually is what helps it stay in tune better than a strat trem or something. I like it because if I want to play in Eb (flat) tuning then I just have to lower the arm as opposed to retuning. :lol:
