And I saw Desaparecidos last year and they brought it pretty hard. The first LP was awesome 10 years ago and holds up fairly well today.
We are kindred spirits. This has always been one of my favorite Brights Eyes tracks.
I'm generally riding the fence on this one though. Like, some songs, especially now, are particularly boring. Others are much more tolerable.

Read Music/Speak Spanish, on the other hand, is a real ripper.

Yeah, I find a majority of the songs pretty boring now. I always hoped he would make a mean dark weird folk album but it never happened. He went full Loretta Lynn instead. Digital Ash was a pretty decent album but it didn't live up to the hype (or at least the hype in my head). I thought Nick Zinner was gonna bring the noise but he did not.

And yeah, Read Music/Speak Spanish kills it.

RM/SS is the crown jewel of Oberst albums but

I was actually super happy when he went full Loretta Lynn.

...is Lifted not a dark, weird folk album? Did I miss something?

RM/SS is the whole reason I got to like Conor Oberst. I never really listened to his music/associated acts much until that album got its hook in me. Naturally, I was very excited about the reformation/EP's, and while I like some of the songs a lot, but most of the lyrics on the EP's/album are just criiiiiiingey.

Still, I enjoyed them well enough musically. I admittedly haven't listened to nearly as much Desaparecidos, Bright Eyes, et al. as I did in my teens, but I've still listened to a few of their songs and made eyeball juice as recently as this year, and BE/Desaparecidos/Conor Buttburst will always have a place in my enlarged, irregularly-beating heart, no matter how cynical or jaded I become.

There are like 2 dark songs. Maybe I'm remembering wrong. That album has all my favorites besides The Calendar Hung Itself and a couple off of I'm Wide Awake, Its Morning. Method Acting and Don't Know When But A Day's Gonna Come are both underrated and superior to the more popular Lover I Don't Have To Love.. But it also has a lot that I find boring.

Also can we just talk about how Cursive's Domestica is their best album?

Domestica is awesome.

This is some of the best emo guitar playing ever recorded:

Angular, dissonant, janky, just perfect. How many bands just ripped off that album...?

For Tim Kasher overall I'm gonna go with The Good Life's Album of the Year as the best, though.

Sad-ass mopin'-ass music LOL

Sorry to spam. But, just a reminder. I've got so awesome Cursive to trade, as well.

I do love Fevers & Mirrors though

I have it in the vinyl box set! Great box set. Hard to find nowadays. Got it from Saddle Creek mailorder back when I was a teenager. #emocred

Yep, I had the original vinyl box set, as well. Wasn't it reissued?

I like all Bright Eyes albums. But, the last ones I really loved were I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning and Digital Ash in a Digital Urn.

I liked them all, but I think I got burnt out due to constantly listening to them. I'm listening to them again now, but I can understand how the constant crying and screaming can get old if you're in too deep
