This drives me up a fucking wall. I expect it and shit, but oh my it's so infuriating.

yeah it sucks. Especially when a lot of friendships and ideas being sold end up getting involved and stuff. I've had to opt out of a lot of stuff because of it just to keep my sanity at this point.
indeed.. I've disconnected with some close friends to avoid that frustration.

your original post is spot on. if you maintain that attitude of playing to those who care vs a big empty crowd, you'll be golden. expect disappointment. expect to clear many rooms. don't give into frustration, have fun and it'll be worth it. shit, I've been performing noise/drone stuff live since 08 and am barely feeling it come around this year. (played ATX couple of months back and was just invited to open for Author & Punisher //Muscle And Marrow* :D )

For what it's worth (to continue the tangent), I think Khanate is far heavier than Indian. Indian is aggressive and I like them a lot but Khanate has a exposed, quality that I think both live and on record feels like you're watching someone's therapy session just before or after a psychological break. It's not hiding behind a wall of fuzz and driving tempos...it's a more deeply vulnerable state I think they nail as well as anyone and to me that's super heavy.

Okay, that's cool. "Heavy" is different things to different people. Sometimes very different things.
For me Khanate is good but Indian just rips my head off, I can't comprehend it, really.
