Hey Tori went to school with my X's brother who has the same birthday as me.

I like some of her music.

In some ways I'm more upset with people who have talent putting out pop crap than the flavor of the week poppies that hit the news every day.

Really? You're gonna compare Gaga against Tori Amos?
That's like comparing The Jonas Brothers with Tom Waits.
That's comparing apples and meatlof.
A more realistic comparison would be Britney Spears.

I'm not saying she's an amazing life changing artist. I'm just saying she's not a puppet. She writes her own shit and has some musical talent. As opposed to only having model looks and fitting the suit.

According to the interwebs, she has a music degree (more than I can say for myself) and she herself has been a ghost writer for Akon, Fergie, Pussycat Dolls, Britney, NKOTB, and others.

Having said that, I would never buy a record by any of those artists, or Gaga.

(I can't believe I'm still defending Lady Fucking Gaga)
I guess I can just think of a lot of people I'd rather start a bashing thread about before her.

This thread MADE me go listen to hers stuff  and I listened to it more then once  From a productional stand point I can see why it works and way some people like it even if I find it to be rehashed crap with too much auto-tune and dust&cobweb covered beats. :picard:

The thing I find disturbing more and more is how "commercial" stuff for the past 10-15 years uses association through nostalgia interms of melodies; where the melodies hint and or blatantly steal from other songs that are in the popular subconscious so it lures you in to excepting it and maybe liking it.

Funny I was out and about today with the radio on and 3 songs played that the underlying feel was stuff I'd heard from the '60s. I swear “Land of a Thousand Dances” has been copied a dozen times in the last 5 years.

I get worse when you are the kind of person that likes to listen to stuff and try to figure out the roots and influence of a song :whateva:

The one that drives me nuts that is on the radio all the time is Green Days Know Your Enemy in which the line "Know Your Enemy" is enogh like the Who's A quick one while he's away's line "we have a remedy" that it makes me want to yell the the radio "just play some fucking WHO you fuckers"

sev wrote:I may be on my own here, but I'm actually compelled to specifically NOT hate on Lady Gaga. Dancy pop may not be your thing, and that's fine. But, she's a songwriter, singer, instrumentalist (pianist), and a pretty decent performer. That's more than I can say for the usual talentless pretty-face pop puppets that we're used to seeing.
She actually worked her way to where she is by writing songs for other artists.
The fact that she's not the most beautiful on the block speaks to the fact that she earned her success based on talent, not looks. I respect that. And I think talent is sexy.

Technical ability is not the same as creative output though. It might be "Better" she can do things like that, but it still doesn't make her a talented musician.

I don't think she's particularly unbeautiful. She has that fashion model kind of look that appeals in the pop world. Also she became a lot more popular when she went blonde.
