And yeah, traynor is the shit.

Don't forget red knob Fender either. Cheaper than silverface, with more modern features - switchable power options, pull boosts and gain stages, effects loops... You can definitely find a twin or Super in your price/value range.
Red knob Fender or a Peavey Heritage/Mace/Classic is definitely a good call. They stay pretty clean and a lot have solid state preamps.

Yet another Traynor vote. I've got an early '70s YBA-1 Bassmaster, which cost me roughly twice what it would have cost me if I were in the US/Canada instead of Europe...And it's STILL a great bargain, concidering what any other decent vintage ptp tube head would've cost me.

I was after plenty of clean headroom as well, but I wasn't even expecting THAT much nice cleans at such volumes. It's *only* about 45Watt, but for some reason, it's a louder and better pedal platform than my old SF twin was. It's not like I run it through fancy super efficient big ass speakers either, just an old jcm 800 cab with the stock celestions :idk:

It's more meaty and thick, with sparkly top highs, kinda like my old Marshall Superbass, another amp I'd also highly recommend for what you're after, if it weren't two or three times the price of the Trayner. My twin wasn't shabby either, but imo the silver face twins have that distinctive ice picky treble fender thing going. Which I guess is why a lot of people like twins, but to each their own, right?

I could get the YBA-1 to break up if I wanted to, but not without an attenuator and earplugs :)

Not a bad suggestion at all. Kinda regret passing on that one that sold here not long ago.

There is one at the shop down the street from me...but I know they would try and jack the price up.

yeah, now that we started the buzz on the internet the prices will go crazy anyway

Back on topic, I have no issues with the clean tone on my randall diavlo, it is a great platform for pedals, I only have the 20 watt head but it is plenty loud.

Remember, this amp isn't for me. It's for a friend who doesn't know anything about amps, he just knows he likes clean amps.

MIG-50 is a distortion machine.

The PA-100 (probably modded) or a custom build (which would probably an overdrive monster as opposed to a clean machine) won't work for him either. I know he can't wrap his head around such a thing, same for a modern features red knob Fender. If it's ugly or or doesn't have a regular amp configuration he'll be lost (the same way most of us look at the 4 channel Diezel amp and just go ). I wanna give him a plug 'n play clean amp.

I actually got a text from a dude last night offering his very clean Bassman 100. I'm running that by my friend right now.

i have a traynor ygl-3 and it is the bomb clean-tube-pedal platform. I got its used at GC for 400 clams. It also weighs as much as an elephant riding a camel riding a honey badger.

Oh whoa, I missed this whole second page.

I dunno if he has any bias towards Peavey or not but Mace/Deuce/etc heads are rare and a bit to quite a cheaper than the Fender Jag when they do pop up.

Speaking of the Super Bass, he does get to use my Hellhawk but doesn't like it cranked because the power section isn't designed to stay clean. At lower volumes though, that clean tone is fucking great.

Yeah I really need to give my buddy's Reverb master a spin...

The 100 watt bassman seems like a great idea. Another idea is maybe one of those bassman 135's with the ultra linear power section. I like those quite a bit as a pedal platform and they can be found pretty cheap.

Well the 135 was just unwieldy. I'm hoping the 100 wont be. I doubt my friend has massive volume needs. Just need the headroom to stay clean.

I love being the middleman, *not*, waiting for texts back from my friend and the seller with the Bassman is being a pain. The guy's trying to offer me the matching cab now coz I left him hanging for a couple hours.

My MIG 50 is clean all the way up man.
Otherwise I wouldn't have suggested it.
Maybe I got a weirdo?

I think there are a couple different ones and eras of the Mig 50s. I know they have nothing to do with my Mig 100h but that thing couldn't do a clean for anything.

Maybe he meant the Midget?
That one is gnarl.
