I think the coolest 'mods' I've seen have to do with the way the muff is tuned, so I can't be much help there. I feel like a notch filter/freq boost combination in lieu of the typical tone knob could be a pretty interesting thing to see -- early morning coffee idea but I've never seen that.
Like a sound saw kinda thing + muff? Sounds like fun to me!

I like the way the Faustone/BSM Fuzz Unit is voiced personally. Pretty sure they are muff based.
Yeah -- the Stone Deaf PDF-1 is a staple of my bass rig (as are various supermuffs) and the combination is glorious. would be cool to have something similar in one box, and I don't think anyone else is doing that at the moment.

True that man! I think it sounds awesome and something that I would really like. The PDF-1 is a good one too with the bandwidth width adjustment. Just gotta find a way to simplify that, but I think a muff would be awesome with that kind of eq (would give it a ton of range) or at least worth a try

Oooooo - yes! That sounds absolutely badass.

I also like the idea of a stonemuff. that'd be tight. notch filter could definitely come in handy as well, like the megalith
i'm glad i can call you a friend. even if i'll never see you again

That's the one I've been honing in on. Not exactly a muff but kind of. Basically missing the fourth transistor and some diodes. From what I'm reading, it seems like it might be a little less scooped than your typical muff too.

I built a swiss army muff of sorts. It is a green civil war base with several key components subbed for rotaries (I/O caps, filter & clipping caps, tonestack). The standard DIST/TONE/VOL knobs are on the side. You can get a lot of different sounds...

And this too.

Also I've played one that had a gate on it before, that was pretty cool. I forget which one that was.

For me the JHS Muffuletta comes pretty close in terms of versatility. And it's roughly twice of what any muff would be worth to me. As far as extra controls go, I prefer my pedals tweaked to my liking straight from the factory, with just your basic tone/eq knobbies to tube it to the guitar/amp I'm using.

Also: It would need more gain than your average stock EHX BMP, so I don't need to stack it with something else to make it ooze with filthy saturation and feedback.

I'm also picky when it comes to size and price. So far the Musket is as close as I ever came to really liking a muff :idk:
There's a lot of popular alternatives I haven't tried though (hoof, supercollider, trifecta,...).

If you like the Musket you will probably like the Supercollider. They're different but definitely kissing cousins (moreso than most super Muffs).

The Supercollider or my Big Game Pedals muff are the two best I've played. The Big Game one has both mids and a tone bypass switch along with a feedback loop and that makes it pretty useful or me? I'd like to see a Bluebeard style muff with the PDF1 style tone section though as DOS mentioned.

Nice. Not so good for my GAS though, my bank account has been ass raped several times the last couple weeks

How do they compare in terms of gain? The extra amount of grit/gain is actually one of the things I liked a lot on the musket. Made a stock bmp sound kinda weak imo.

I've never tried a Musket but the Supercollider has approximately all of the gain and volume on tap

Huge input caps are a must for me. Ever had a big muff that couldn't handle the lows you were feeding it? Annoying...

I haven't played a musket in a long, long time, but I just lent T-rey a my SC and here's what he had to say about the two:
t-rey wrote: The Supercollider blew my mind though - it's close to the Musket but can be just as big and mean without loosing too much definition or having too much harsh high end like the Musket set for similar toanz.

This more or less jives with my memory -- they both have a ton of usable gain.
