Honestly, I got a ISP Decimator II in a crazy deal, and started using it when I began using a Dual Rec/5150 II combo with my Ric 620. Being able to have my hands off the guitar and no sound is produced was pretty incredible. I recently got a bud box MXR Noise Gate and I think if I ever elect to use my scene kid set-up again, it'll go back on my board.

Basically, buy one and try it, it's a lot cooler than what most people make it out to be. It didn't kill any feedback/noise that I wanted to happen, just the stuff I couldn't control.

While you're in there doing a proper shielding, you should also star ground all the electronics. Those ground loops are essentially antennae.

making the guitar as quiet as possible is a great idea regardless of whether or not you add a gate.

I took the gate out of my setup recently as I didn't like the way the one I had (NS-2) was interacting with my setup

may try another at some point but for now I like just handling things with my volume pedal, I don't have a ton of noise anyway

strat has single coils in neck and middle and no shielding and it is pretty quiet

Yeah I'm thinking that not having the pickguard shielded is the most of my problems. I'll grab some copper tape for sure!

that will probably fix it!

I have always thought about shielding the heck out of my strat

just never bothered

that guitar has been taken apart so many times, you would think shielding would have happened at some point

Hahah, same with this Jazzmaster. I wanted to do some rewiring in it anyways, so this is a good excuse to get it open even sooner. I would honestly probably play it more if it weren't so heavy and also the noise of the pickups. At least I will be able to fix one of those things!
