Cloudkicker's live with intronaut is awesome, especially for people who don't like the fact that he uses drum machines. :thumb:

Tom Waits - Nighthawks at the Diner
What more needs to be said?

Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Weld
This album is the main reason I play the guitar.

Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense
The video is on another level entirely but it's still really great as an audio recording, my favourite versions of pretty much every song on it.

D.o.S., The Dead is one of our strongest areas of agreement (they are rare and must be celebrated). Live/Dead is one of my favourites. I didn't want OP to be a mile long but I thought about mentioning it. Europe '72 is mentioned/praised more often, but I prefer L/D TBH.

You know, it's debatable as to whether this was actually a live album, per se, but it's live in the studio, and was marketed as a live album, and it fucking rips from start to finish. (The artist is Melt Banana FYI.)

on of the major reasons I play music, a lot of the tracks are better than the album versions and that drum sound

This would have been a simpler way to describe what makes a great live album in OP

There was a great live Weirdos bootleg...but can't find it online.

Epileptics:

Dropdead:

Not that good, but whatever:

Much better, but not fully live (starts at 47:50):

All of the Target Video stuff (there is a lot):

UK SUBS:

Crash course too...but can't find it on the youtubes

GISM

There was a great live recording of Melt Banana floating around (and I think I still have) of them playing a gig to honor John Peel. It was really really good...

I think some of these are more incredible that the exist (like crass and gism). Some of the other ones are kinda classics with their fans (uk subs [even though I think it sounds thin]) but the Epilectics/Flux of Pink Indians on is a classic...and Target video was pretty important too....
