Garden State has long served as a watered-down gateway to alternative culture for young, emotional fuckboys to be. The soundtrack introduced countless suburbanites to synthesizers and vocal fry, and undoubtedly inspired teen bands across the Northeast to write songs about that one Quirky Girl in their class who no one seemed to appreciate but them. It’s indie potato chips — very easy to ingest, very low nutritional value, good for what it is.

How's that for synchronicity?

I think what Case Candy is trying to say is "The Shins totally blow ass, but are actually pretty good when put against the abortion of a movie that is Garden State."

You always post criticisms of things I like as though I was completely unaware of them or, worse, didn't agree with them
It's very... paternalistic... no, just condescending, I guess
I agree with all feminist criticisms of Garden State, manic pixies, &c., so forth
Just because something is problematic, does not preclude its being entertaining, or even good
All media is problematic... on the flip, not everything has a duty to not be problematic... socialist realism is lame
It is a misguided film in several ways, chief among them a) mentally ill people ought to take their meds; b) women don't exist solely to further the lives of men
Take it from another angle, though...
It actually has a lot to say about the complicated relationship between a young person and their hometown. That is the movie. The rest is window trappings
Another good theme is, allowing yourself to feel something vs. being "comfortably numb"
The script is quite good, too, in terms of one-liners and quirky juxtapositions and whatnot
And the soundtrack is a great album

I don't like anything in an ironic sense.

Are you telling me you're a big enough hipster to like things... ironically?

Yes, I fucking love both those songs.

Okay. I'm gonna just do what D.o.S. did a while back there and start saying "If you say so."

I don't have the fucking energy to do this anymore.

It's not fun anymore.

I like my music and I'm here to stay. We like a lot of music in common.

Let's just move past this. I will if you dude(tte)s will.

Much was made of the fact that great white sharks like death metal. This much is obvious, as sharks are metal AF. But I can't help but wonder, would they have preferred doom? How can we be sure that sharks didn't once eat a guy wearing a "LISTEN TO VOLUME FOUR" wifebeater? And that, inspired by this message, glimpsed momentarily before dismemberment, in cahoots with electric eels and similar fish, they haven't slowly been assembling, from shipwrecks and lost cargo containers, a phenomenal Sabbath vinyl collection (vinyl near mint; sleeves fair to poor)?

SUNDAY MUSING BONUS ROUND:::

Is prodigys "fat of the land" a good enough album to justify both their shitty post FOTL career AND all of the bad daterapey times people have had while this album has played? I wager this will ring true a lot more with europeans, for americans i think sublime is a decent approximation.

No...

At least Prodigy had a couple decent songs... there is nothing redeeming whatsoever about Sublime...
