Yeah the action is pretty good and the vari-tone knob provides a lot of tone options on the guitar, along with the coil taps and such. Lots of variety, i just forget what some of the controls do sometimes!

Overall its a fun guitar to play, but I'm a Fender-head at heart.

That's OK, pretty sure you can't play as fast as Jimmy Bryant anyway.

Mockingbirds are so rad.

Anyway I went this route. Was playing a les paul in a grindcore band. Have lost a lot of dexterity in my left hand following a couple bicycle accidents. Bought one of those low end Jackson Adrian Smith signature models, had it set up really well. Playing fast is SO MUCH easier now. I'll swap the pickup out at some point.

Mosh strats are awesome. Give in to it.

Personally I'd go with a BC rich but that is because I like their neck shape which I don't consider a shredder neck, depending on year their necks can be pretty beefy [MIJ NJ one are the BESS], newer ones are a bit thinner but still not like a Jackson or Ibanez wizard. I had a MIJ Jackson Kelly for a long time and while it was a great guitar for what it was I don't like those shred necks, I have big hands and too many years of being a bassist. Thinnest neck I ever saw was a 80's Jackson soloist, made you wonder how they got a working truss rod in the thing

Also, not sure how feasible you think this is, but if you scallop the fretboard and use really light strings, you'll be really fast.

Can't shred without a midnight blue gibson victory, would definitely be my choice for a faster guitar...

I"m a fan of Reverends even though I don't have one. Fast guitars with an old school aesthetic.

sounds like I need to get me some 8s

10 to 52 is what I have played for years

Tried a few scalloped guitars in the past not bad

I guess by faster I mean easier to play because I know I won't play any better, but I also don't know that I need to constantly fight against a guitar
lots of fatigue lately

Better go with the .007s :!!!:

Yeah, I like heavier strings too.

The thing with a scalloped fretboard and really light strings is that it call for a much lighter touch. Press too hard and you'll be pulling notes sharp. Definitely easier on the hands and allows you to play faster. Requires a whole different approach to playing though. It's a commitment.

You should just go play some shredder guitars in a store and see what feels good to you. I think a thinner neck is probably what you're after. Lighter strings will definitely help with that too.

you can ONLY play ZZ top licks with 7s, I tried a set, things are so bendy you can't play fast…
