Haha, I just picked up xrleroyx's space echo (re-150, but I don't really need more verb). Far from minty, but still a heck of a lot of fun to play with. I need to find a place that will put now tolex on and clean it up.
The sad thing is one of my coworkers sees it and casually mentioned he just threw away his because someone was supposed to pick it up for the past 2 years.

culture jam just picked up Strange Tail's too. UG, backwardsvoyager have em too.
Yeah i had to pay the higher end of their resale value for the condition... but hell... it had to match the great condition of my Binson

take those perceived 'high' resale values with a grain of salt, because in today's dollars they were not cheap new, even minty ones haven't really surpassed the original list prices yet and they were made for many years so there are plenty out there, and as rfurtkamp said you'll mostly find nice well-cared-for units or thrashed ones so it's generally a case of paying up for a nice one or snagging a cheap one and putting in proper work to get it running nicely again.
i paid peanuts for mine and it isn't pretty at all but it's definitely the best effects-related purchase i've ever made, so much more than a delay unit, can't compare it to pedals at all.
congrats with the purchase!

I keep looking for a thrashed one to abuse and set the internal stuff wild like I did to an old 501 when you couldn't give them away so it's running permanently in not quite sound on sound mode (erase head only taking out about 30% per pass, and running at before spaceship runaway oscillation).
The glorious thing on any of 'em is the ability to have mildly runaway oscillation while still having a discernable repeat if you dial it in right.

Finally! 2 days late and 4 calls later to Fed Ex it's here!!
Hoping to get a few minutes with it tonight but will spend dedicated time with it on Sunday and post some clips! Super excited.
I can't believe how clean this thing looks in person. Almost looks new!

So you're the one that got it. If you decide at some point to offload, get in touch with me first, please.

I'm working on a maintenance guide with a guy from madbean's forum. Between the two of us, I think we've adjusted, calibrated, replaced, or retrofitted just about every part on a Space Echo (except for the motor bearings). Any input you want to share would be appreciated.
So far, I've tracked down replacement hardware for the chassis screws, tape guide bearing, cap screws for the acrylic tape cover, and thumb screw for the tape loading door. Still have some parts to find, but I'm getting there.

Nah, I'm happy just to shut up and listen--you and Rob know shitloads more about the inner workings than I do. I can mostly muddle along with electrical, but electro-mechanical gets out of my depth faster.

if you're having trouble with replacement parts you might wanna have a chat with Shane from echofix.com
he has quite a few replacement parts fabricated for his store and restored a lot of older stuff, really nice dude.
