Band I share my studio with is a post-rock band and they are absolute garbage. Not just in that they're songs aren't interesting/go anywhere but they execution is poor which makes it even worse

i'm not that fond of godspeed on record but I did really enjoy seeing them live. they're kinda on the fence for me.
Tortoise and Mono are two of the best bands i've ever seen live, though. the former for basically playing for 2 hours straight constantly switching instruments and being equally adept with each, the latter for making me cry the manliest of man-tears.

Their name is fucking dumb and I hate how I associate them with one particular asshole but I'll give them another chance just because I love you.

post rock was really disappointing to watch take a nose dive from this new exciting thing that encompassed everything from le fly pan am and other weird canadian shit to those drum teachers in tortoise to shellac to the rachels to god knows what else straight into white guy college rock without the words. But mogwai are so rad. I don't think I never need to listen to any new stuff by them ever again, just the effect they had at a certain point on music was so rad.

Mono were amazing live btw. But there's too many happy songs on their albums. F that S. Also theyre just behind kylesa in the running for longest soundcheck I've ever had to drink my way through. Still, they were awesome.

I wish I was on this forum years ago when I voiced similar sentiments but instead I just got yelled at. Sorry I didn't want to join the latest Hammock album bukkake past brocachos.

Sure. I like shoegaze but it's pretty played out as a genre, nobody liked worship ever and the only reason noise rock is still viable is because it's nebulous as fuck. I'm not saying anything new here. My official statement. Sea lion of approval.

All genres suck. Except prog. Mogwai rules.

Although I agree that they have an identifiable overall style, I hear a lot of differences in approach and instrumentation from album to album that makes each stand on its own.

My consistent attitude towards new Mogwai albums is "I am going to dislike most of this for awhile and then it will grow on me like a sickness."

guys, the key is to forget that that fucking moniker exists then you can actually enjoy the music and judge the band by its true merits

and realize that Mogwai, Sigur Ros and Godspeed are actually genius
and that Explosions are the vanilla ice-cream of this "scene" or whatever we want to call it

have to admit, I'm having a hard time getting into Tortoise. I sometimes listen to some albums when I'm riding a bus home from Prague (2,5 hours drive approximately) and I'm always like "Yeah, that's cool, I really like this." and then some nonsensical fucked up bleep bloop fest starts to happen and the vibe is gone
