There actually are a couple of accordion-based electronic keyboards out there.
The chromatic accordion layouts are different though (and to be honest, were always a mystery to me). Usually (at least on the systems I've seen) don't have the same symmetry across the up-down diagonals for example.
oh, alternate keyboard design has been around as long as keyboards...ever sen pictures of the organs with >12 keys per octave to take care of temperament issues?
