Rewatched the other day...and I've gotta say yeah Courtney is a bigger mess than I remembered in my recount, both loathsome and entertaining af all at once.
Long term drug addiction and crazy on full display. It's as if she's in an AA/NA meeting and glorifying dubious rock bottom stories. Full of cringe. Cant look away type stuff.
This docu is very...Hollywood. And unnecessarily long. I still enjoyed it in spite of being so depressing. It's full of good stories, fictitious or not.

I keep thinking of the doodle Kurt drew, that was then animated with Ronald Reagan and Ernie from sesame street (complete with puppeteer) rocking out in a band together

I'll weigh in...

He'd stated in several interviews that his next project would have been a primarily acoustic album with piano featured on most songs. In one interview, often quoted, he stated, "Sometimes, I wish I'd taken the singer-songwriter route and sung songs where my voice didn't give out on me every night." And his final album was a live acoustic album.

The songs on the first Foo Fighters album were, in the main, written by Grohl for Nirvana. He sang one lesser-known (and good) Nirvana song, "Marigold," and he played most of those songs for Kurt circa the In Utero sessions and he liked them.

So those are some facts! Fuel for the imagination, eh?

If I can be allowed a moment of wild speculation, maybe Melora Creager, the cellist from Rasputina who toured with them on the In Utero tour, would have become a permanent member of the band, or maybe Lori Goldston who played on Live In New York, one of them. I base that on Pat Smear, the guitarist from the Germs who became Nirvana's permanent lead guitarist post-In Utero, made a similar transition. Had they continued to record albums, he would have been on them.

Also don't disrespect Foo Fighters, they have written some great songs and even albums, albeit none in the last decade or so. "Everlong" in particular, while annoyingly ubiquitous, is a Nirvana-quality song. Just IMO!

Coincidentally, Everlong is the only Foo Fighters song I ever liked.


Fun fact, the first time I ever heard of Foo Fighters was when I saw them open for Mike Watt. Hovercraft was better, though.

Enjoyed the film a lot, but found it hard to believe anything of what came out of the mouths of those being interviewed. Kurt's mother saying "this music is going to be huge, you're not ready for that." Shut up, you never said that Home video stuff was horrendous and overly long, felt like Courtney was desperately trying to show that, even though they had really bad drug problems, they were very much in love, as if she still had to prove that to people. It was all pretty phoney. However, Kurt was my hero when I was younger and all this additional insight into his life, whether it was exaggerated or not, was very fascinating.

Everlong is a great song. One of the best of the past 25 years, and 90s as a whole. The acoustic versions, too.
But TC&TS is painfully boring as an album. S/T Foo Fighters is the only FF rekkid in my collection, and still stands up...especially the deep cuts Oh, George & Exhausted.
It's loaded with great songwriting and charm, and the only one where Dave played pretty much everything on it himself. And I dig it.
