The Gigahearts dude was selling one he built the other day and has a pretty good comparison video up. If I were looking into a DMM that's probably what I'd try.

I just got it in trade from Insubordination, but have no basis for comparison with a real DMM. He had some things to say about it so maybe he will chime in.
Sounds killer though!

I had a 2000's reissue but in the end I decided to sell it, it's absolutely great and one of the best delays ever but the DMM-550TT and No Memory replaced it for me.
A good PT2399 delay with modulation can actually get very close to that old DMM vibe and the DMM-550TT gets really close as well while having many usable options.

my DMM is super fragile and finicky... would you really go as far as calling the XO even more fragile?

I somehow think that with not-board-mounted pots, it has to be much better.... And tbh the chassis seems much more rugged, too...
I'm sure the blueface DMMs are sweet as hell, but come on... the modulation is fantastic. Couldn't live without it
and the preamp... Never minded that

Sure will go so far. I'm already on the way back

I predict the existing XO DMM supply will have all become pricy paperweights in 10 years time; and those XO units still in use will be late models/leftovers/NOS etc. Meanwhile, there will still be 70s, 80s, 90s and even early 00s DMMs still alive and kickin.
Your own big box unit is a testament to their longevity and ability to be resurrected from the dead. Warts & all.
When a PCB with micro SMD components fails, it's hellofalot easier and less expensive to replace the entire PCB than surgically swapping out the isolated problematic part.
While such technology has greatly improved the cost, size and processing power of computers; it has transformed once serviceable analog circuits into disposable hazmat.

Ha, okay, gotcha about the SMDs and all. good point
thing is - mine needs an owner who is readily able to service it. that's the bottom line. And I'm sure a lot of the old ones is like that. Good to keep that in mind
however again - mine has already been resurrected from the dead, so it might be a bit more fragile than the usual old ones

As much as I want to say fuck them sniffers.. they don't sound the same. Cos I've tried few of them in the past.
I've owned a big box DMM years back that went wonky, and sold it.. but still it was the greatest delay pedal I've had. After missing it too much, I bought the DMM TT1100.. hated it! Plenty of stuffs to dislike so I returned it. Then I bought the DMM XO, MEH.. sounds nothing like the real thing.. yeah you know where this pedal went. Then I found a good deal on another big box not too long ago on craigslist and snagged it. I'm really lucky, cos this one is super healthy (rare for EHX, let alone being old).. it sounds glorious and better than any current production. Most beautiful modulation on a delay pedal, ever. It's here to stay.
You know you want it. Stop researching and start hunting, they're out there waiting.

This thread is the damn best. Thank you so much.
I think I'm gonna go after a big box reissue. There's a blueface on Reverb for like $300 but I NEED that mod. Gonna flip my El Cap and Afterneath on Friday.
And yo, to SpaceLordMother, if you decide to flip that Gigahearts, let a homie know.

Big box RI seems like a good choice to me, honestly. Not too old for stuff to go too wonky, not to new to be shite

I tried the DMM-1100TT and the DMM XO, I didn't like those either.
The most fucked up thing with Electro Harmonix is that they all sound kinda different.
I had a DMM-550TT that went bonkers and I got a replacement which always seemed less special to me, got to try my old DMM-550TT again after it was fixed and I really preferred it so we exchanged both again.
