They're probably really expensive. If you can even find one.

i think part of Chet's disaffection for Dynasonics may have been that, being single-coil, they would hum like a mofo in the poorly-grounded musical environment of the 1950s. but i'd have to look it up, and honestly i don't care enough about Chet Atkins to go look.
for the record, i want one of those Duane Eddy guitars so bad i can taste it. that's the sound of Stephen Stills in Buffalo Springfield. but the last time i looked they're quite rare and usually start at $4K and go way, way up from there.

Yeah, I think Chet had a number of problems with the Dynasonics. I like Chet's playing, it's difficult to fault, but it's generally too clean for me.

Ran into the Dynasonics discussion elsewhere when I found this vid, but these are probably stealthily hum cancelling and not 60 year old pickups (for dat prix, you'd hope sew?):
Anyway, nobuddy seems to like 'em for that reason, but leave it 2 Lage to be the bunrunner for this cause of a necrobumped thread

yeah, those are modern surface-mount-ish revamps that look more like the DeArmond 2K/2000 pickups that FMIC was using in the Gretsch and Guild budget lines in the 00s. larger diameter standard-ish fixed polepieces centered in the surface like a P-90 rather than to one side like proper Dynas or the DeArmond TryMo-Sonics, and lacking the large, antiquated system of adjusting the polepieces. if i want that sound, i have a Gretsch Special jet that's essentially a singlecut Les Paul Special with the DeArmond 2000 pickups which are about 87% like real Dynas as well as what i believe is the first Pro Jet 1.0 to ever have had Dynas fitted. i did it myself, and it was a tremendous pain in the ass because it required removing wood from the underside of the top in the pickup cavities since Dynas are too tall to surface mount on a Pro Jet due to the shallow neck angle and shorter housings do not exist.
note: the DeArmond 2K and 2000 are emphatically not the same. the 2Ks sound like an undernourished P-90 and were widely despised among the Guild user base, so they went back to the drawing board for the 2000s which as far as i know only appeared in some Gretch Electromatic budget-line guitars in the later 00s. they're quite good, and cheap as chips on Reverb.

These single coils got me all messed up, man
All that DeArmond talk got me searching out, but they're still outta my prix range, along with most of this single talkin' All great 2 know :::themooreyouknow:::
Similar only in format (maybe?), I wandered back 2 Joe Gore for some Charlie Christian (thread hijack!) knowledge & was knott disappointed:
