Okay, ring mods are pretty cool after all.

I want one!!! :!!!:

Thanks for sharing, duders! I found some new bands I'm going to listen to some more too. Three Trapped Tigers gave me goosebumps on my boner. Soooo good!

Ring Mod is better on keys / synths than on guitar I think.
Jeff Beck also made some really cool use of Ring Mod on guitar.
Though usually it gets used more as a solo thing you can get some cool percussive sounds out of it as well.
I wouldn't get a Randy's Revenge to be honest, it's incredibly expensive and it's also one of the weaker sounding ones in my opinion, I'd get a Moog MF Ring or a Maestro clone.
Doesn't one of you Norwegian bro's have a BitQuest?

:idk: I like the Fairfield much better than the Moog. Sure, the Moog has more functionality, but I never used the full range of it. If I didn't have a Randy's Revenge and were gonna get a ring mod, I think I'd go for a Wilson Mycelium. That's based solely on demos though, I've never actually played one.

Ringmod is amazing for weird overtones and textures on guitar. Not so much for riffs I think, but ringmod and time-based effects are instant space. I love the Carlin ringmod. It's passive, got only 1 knob, but 2 signal inputs so you can modulate your instrument signal with anything. Traded it but I'm getting a clone again.

The first one that jumped to mind for me was Sonic Youth's Silver Rocket with that big breakdown that starts around 1:45...and puts in 1:30 or so of ring mods...

You cray!

Randy is my favourite ring mod.
Planetoid
Ring Stinger
BitQuest
Gonkulator
Ibanez phase modulator (gets almost ring mod)

I still own all of them except the stupid Gonkulator and Randy is my clear favourite clean ring mod.

can anyone point me to songs with ring mod on bass? Other than Squarepusher

I had Catalinbread Heliotrope a while back, in my mostly guitar days. I know I used it for some bass tracks while recording, but it ended up being more of a undiscernable texture in the music than anything else I guess...

Don't do it!

There is a lot of bleed with the carrier signal and it disappears in a mix. Could have and should have been so much better.

Mine doesn't seem to have those problems, certainly cuts through the mix but it's a clone :idk: Excellent unique sounding pedal to me, lots of fun. Really does sound like there is some bitcrushing going on even though its all analogue.
