Seller's remorse/10
I love my Eventides so much that I don't think I'll sell them any time soon.

How pleasant.

Hmm. Unregister H-9, register to a new account with a new email address (different physical address? Wife's credit card?), buy ten algorithms, get Max-ed?
Might need to switch to an alternate purchase method, like is it through Amazon on a PC? If you want the iOS touch editor back, you might have to re-transfer the Max-ed unit.
I can see the notion that the low-threshold upgrade is supposed to be a one-time deal, but why not let you do the 4/16 upgrade path at worst? If you had stripped the loaded algorithms back to stock for resale and bought the new unit, you would have Max-worthy purchases and the new guy could get the same with ten purchases. What's the harm of letting you in with ten new purchases?

Another thought occurred to me. Send this unit to someone with a Max, have them upgrade it, the deactivate and send it back to me. Wonder if that'd work.

No, for the same reasons in my last post. They have set it up so that you can't run a free Max mill.
Edit: if it worked that way they would cease selling their entire line except for H9 cores and a secondary market of 'Maxers' would compete for the last few bucks to be made.

Yea I get that. haha. Wishful thinking. I still think I'm entitled to an upgrade regardless. They did not say ever in any literature on their site or elsewhere that you could only upgrade one device. Plus the fact that they aren't even willing to honor me purchasing 10 more for a Max out is complete and utter shit. It would cost me literally the same amount as buying a Max.
Fuck it I guess. I'm going to try in the morning. If they are dicks I'm just straight up returning it and writing Eventide off.

Ha! This is the line that did it for me:
Sorry, but I am certain that the money you spent on algorithms was recovered when you sold the H9 Max, which has a greater value than the regular H9.
Sorry, but I am certain that *your pedals* are ugly as your attitude.....and sound equally as cold.

Definitely ask to get an answer from the boss of the person you got a mail from.
And hint that you'll definitely make sure that you'll publicize the fact that they're not keeping their word if this is not just a misunderstanding.

straight up. while I can understand their stance, I'd be absolutely pissed if I were you. seems like you'd be 'entitled' if you didn't reveal the fact that you sold your OG unit lol

this whole thing wouldn't even be an issue if they hadn't just made the algorithms so expensive
a. you're paying 4-500 for a piece of hardware less substantial than one of their 'factor' pedals.
b. a vast majority of the algorithms people are paying for are ported off pedals some of which are nearly 10 years old and have already sold 10,000's of units
if it costs fucking hundreds of dollars EXTRA just to get all the sounds out of it of course shit like this is gonna happen, why the fuck does ONE algorithm cost $20.
it's complete and utter bullshit and i've never understood it. their marketing scheme is greedy as fuck so it doesn't surprise me they would be lying like this.

This is all you'd need to do. Yes it's slightly annoying and they are being shitty, but you'll get exactly what you expected to get in the first place.

wow I was really thinking about an H9 but this is some serious BS. I understand them wanting to not let people just upgrade infinite times and profit on selling the core+max algo's. But it just seems really stupid to me that the algo's are so expensive. Fuck, I mean this is the day in age when you can get open-source anything.
I'd really like to see someone build a z-dsp cart-style pedal with open specs for the dsp code.

That is a bullshit situation dude. Me personally I would bombard them hard with emails just to annoy them till you get satisfaction. Treat it like an Operation Rolling Thunder situation. For anyone who doesn't know what I mean by that. For one week during the Vietnam War the U.S Airforce dropped more bombs on the Viet Cong than what the U.S Airforce dropped for the whole of WW2. If they block you then the rest of us will take over for you. An ILF email bombing campaign.
