Some stuff is way easier to get with keys than with guitar... Use organ and strings and choir sounds to build pads that float in the background, play chords for like 8/16 bars before bending them into the next 8/16 bar chord... Use lots of delay and set up lfos to slowly change the filter or pitch in very small amounts over long periods of time... Check out some Ulrich Schnauss, or some Oneohtrix Point Never or a band called Guitar for examples of Keygaze...

Get a synth with a pitch bend and modulation wheel. Using these two together will give you instant washy chorus sounds with almost any patch. The best part, is that you will be controlling it.

I can fake most standard guitar cliches (including gaze) with one and I've only had one for a couple months!
