...is there some reason you're opposed to just buying a DD5? Because thats what it sounds like you want
Yeah, if I don't find an alternative, I might just get me another DD-5. It's just that the reverse mode is the only thing I love about the DD-5, my DL-8 can do all the other regular delays stuff, only better. So if something like one of those Red Pandas can give me the same sort of reverse effect, plus also a bunch of other cool tricks I don't already got covered, it makes more sense to put that on my board...

Care to elaborate?

Too bad the guy just played a handfuyl of random notes instead of something vaguely melodic, but I guess the difference should be clear enough there. I don't know about ALL delay pedals and their reverse modes, but something like for instance a DL-4, doesn't do those chopped up reverse repeats the way the DD-5 does it. On the DL-4, and I *think* on most delay pedals, the reverse mode just repeats a whole phrase, in reverse, at the lenght that you dial in with your pedal's time control. It's the best I can explain, it's too bad there's so few good youtube demos :s

The EHX Hazarai would've been a worthy contenstant...If it weren't even bigger than the Red Pandas, which is the biggest I could fit on my overflowing board.

The DD-5 is acting like a literal delay pedal, just reversing the buffer.

Most delay pedals with reverse mode try to organically add a layer of reverse to the signal.

That's the non-technical explanation I can come up with before coffee.

i feel like the DD's are like in reality really dope & unique pedals, but since Boss or some other reason, ppl just want to replace them w/ something "sexier".

the DD's might be Boss's best pedal line.

Couldn't explain it better myself, thanks!

If I were half the post rock shoegazer I used to be, I'd be more than content with anything from the RV series, and anything from DD series.

Come to think of it, an RV3, DD5, and FZ2 would make the awesomest mini board. For a total of 90 bucks :p

Seriously though, what made me flip my dd5, dispite the rrrrreally nice reverse mode: The regular delay modes weren't at all as crispy, and well...'digital' as the delays on the RV3, which impo cuts through a mix like a razor through butter. No analog/lofi/modulation modes either, so for me the Hardwire DL8 just made more sense in the end.

Add a PS-5 to that and I'd have so much fun.

Try to track down a Line6 Echo Park. It has probably the best sounding reverse delay I've heard. Have two on my board, one is always set to reverse.

And what is this about a new Red Panda??? The Particle has become an indispensable texturizer for me.

To the OP: When you're in the mood for something "out there" do try the Particle. It has so much to offer. Any reverse into Particle reverse is so much fun. Layers and layers of sound...

That's actually a funny coincidence. I'm not getting reply notifications in my email for this thread, I just wanted to post a reply saying I think I found THE pedal for me.

...A Line6 echo park :)

Aside from the looper, the two things I miss about my old DL4 that my current delay pedals can't do: The swell mode and Sweep mode. I was actually googling for something that does the Sweep mode, stupidly forgetting about the most obvious alternative for the DL4. I didn't even hope to find something that does both a great reverse delay (similar enough to that of the DD5), as well as the sweep and swell tricks :)

They can be found cheapish too, yeay :)

I'm definatelly keeping eyeing the BST thread for pretty much anything by Red Panda though :)

Yeea. I have a feeling the Echo Park is going to be one of those pedals that will become harder and harder to find.

Until someone makes something that does what it does better...

Really? I feel like I see them all the time. :idk:

I was GASing for one for a really long time. I wouldn't mind one still, but I need to let go of some other 'lays first. :grumpy:

but do your chips self oscillate?

As usual, it seems like untill now it was hard not to trip over cheap echo parks, but now that I want one it's like they turned into klons

Actually, I think the answer would be 'yes'. At least that what I remember reading online. And if the echo park is indeed basicly a smaller DL4, than I guess I can confirm that it does oscillate. Don't know how good though, but I've got an ES-2 for all my oscillation needs, so I'd probably only use the echo park for the reverse/swell/sweep modes.
