Just got the new floppy drives. They are Teacs. They are awesome! I don't have to solder directly to the head. If I have find the matching socket (or just take the one off the board) I can use both heads on each drive. That is awesome. Potential for 8 different banks of delay/samples (of course that means double preamps). Pictures when I start getting going. Might try to find power and floppy cables to make even less soldering. Kind of excited!

This project peaks my interest big time.. is someone working on a DIY walkthru of how to build this? My knowledge of guitar effects/electronic DIY is burgeoning but isn't quite where it needs to be to tackle this without a schematic or somewhat detailed foundation.
Great deals with: silikon, blunder, JonnyAngle, insubordination, echorec

Yea, I am writing as I go but there isn't much other than design stuff. There is nothing functional at all yet. I am just getting parts in (which reminds me that I have to order cables) and haven't made anything yet.

Anyway, here is what I have been sidetracked on lately. I think the boss DSD-2 is neat for it's glitch potential. DOD DFX94's are cheaper and have a big problem: the switch. I thought, wow, I'll just true bypass the thing and make an automated switching setup for the sample/hold mode. I made this little cv activated relay switching system that supposedly switches with a 5v (5ms minimum) cv trigger pulse. Trigger pulses are short though, but I got it workin' and clickin'. DFX94 didn't like it though (but that may have been because of the the short time of the pulse?).

It's a really simple circuit that uses a transistor as a gate kinda thing.

Anyway, that's cool and all and I will figure it out, but now I have a CV controlled true bypass looper with the same circuit. Cool! Glitchy switching between two effects. Then I thought, I should add a mixer to this bypass looper to give psuedo trails to pedals? But now I have to order opamps...to help the mixer work/prevent signal loss. And then I was thinking, ordering just opamps is kinda lame and not worth the packaging. Concurrently Dandolin got me figuring out how LDRs and the mutron iii work (for envelope cv control). Then I remembered my relay switch...

Guitars output between 200mv and 1v or thereabouts right? What if I used a step-up conterter (max756 or something more adjustable...max757) to turn it to 5v or something or slightly higher? You'd have to probably adjust for your guitar, but since I don't care about the sound of it I could just split it off and use it as a cv trigger? Does that sound plausible? Might give you some fun control over the looper or other stuff with cv-trigger? Would probably eat current like crazy? Could I also make this charge an ipod type usb thing (not that I ever would)? So many questions...

I'll add my finidings to this thread.

Oh yea, some "test" parts came in for the floppy delay. I'm going to try some plug and play hipster "diy" parts just to see if I can get it running.

Project: Easy Peak CV-controller
    external link: N/A
    Licence: Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0)
>>Goal
The goal of this project is to find a simple solution to control a guitar pedal that features an expression pedal input with an external envelope. The envelope created should be influenced by the musician's playing dynamic. Additionally, the envelope controller should either be standalone, in a parallel signal chain, or offer other features so that it does not create clutter or interferance in a signal chain.

>>Solution One
--The plan is to use an LDR/photoeye wired to an expression pedal input to translate the peak/gain LED off another pedal to transmit envelope information. A gasket or tube with a seal will be used to make the LDR more responsive to the LED.
    --Current Status
Protype complete and tested. Building a housing.
    --Schematic/design
      N/A
    --Result
      N/A
    --Possible Revisions/Modifications
..Apply a highly reflective coating inside the LDR's housing to create a more varied light.
..Use several LDRs with low ratings to and different distances to give either a smoother or stepped envelope.
..Change the distance between the LED and LDR.
      ..Different LDRs?

Ok, been scatter-brained as heck lately, but anyway...got a question for you all:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/650W-Watt-ATX-PC-Power-Supply-SATA-PCIe-120mm-Single-Cooling-Fan-Quiet-600w-/221590100961?hash=item3397cc9be1 It is just a normal computer power supply.

Would a power supply like that interfere with audio components and create line noise/hum (using four power amps and four preamps TL072 or 071 and LM386 or the dual equivalents based for the moment). I just think it might be easier to power my whole system that way (or with something similar)...the floppy disk delay I mean. Or should I just build my own custom power supply?

Eh, just going to do it. I'll just sheild the circuit if I have to.

Still haven't made a choice between 555 timers or arduino. Probably just going to set it up for both.
