Maybe more "drones" than "gazey", but earlier today I discovered the joys of:
DBA Sunshine Reverberator
Moog MuRF (setting 1; just resonant filters)
Boss Tera Echo
Mr. Black Supermoon Chrome
The MuRF would catch certain notes and cause them to ring out, and that, in turn, got chewed up by the Tera Echo
It sounded like the last things a stranded astronaut would hear before his oxygen ran out.

I think I'm going to keep the Orbiter for phaser needs because I also rely on the vibrato mode for the main lead in one song. I really like the sounds of the Dispatch Master. I'm going to order it tomorrow while Prymaxe is still doing 20% on pedals. I have two spots left, one needs to be tremolo, the other probably flanger. I'm tempted to find a way to squeeze on an analog delay, probably my Carbon Copy.
The Pareidolia is interesting and has me thinking about using it or some other kind of vibe-ish pedal instead of a tremolo. If I can get a fast rate and blend/depth, the sweep isn't as important. So something that has more than volume fluctuation going on could be very cool. What else is out there that is a cool spin on a tremolo?
I don't know anything about flangers besides the MXR, but I use it fairly often instead of chorus or anything.
I'm trying to keep each pedal under $200 to be realistic. I'm dipping into funds I had set aside for a dream guitar later this year, so I do want to hold back a little.
Thanks for the suggestions. It's also cool seeing what others would choose to work with, found some companies I haven't checked out before.

Zvex Sonar is a tap trem that also gives you control over the waveform, so you can do choppy squarewave trem or more of a pulsing. Also has a ramp up or down feature and other cool tricks.
You should also check out the EQD Depths. At fast speeds it has a really cool almost-trem/almost-phaser kinda sound.

Flanger? Perhaps the Electric Mistress. Freezing those flange sounds for odd resonance is super fun.

My current shoegaze board is:
EHX Hot Tubes Nano>Devi ever Don't Fear the Noise>Boss CE-2>Boss RE-20
I was using a RV-3, but the Space Echo is better.

All of this, but with your Grand Orbiter in place of the insatant lo fi.
The RM-1N is my favourite pedal of all time man. 2 gain controls and any kind of reverb you can dream of nearly cept reverse shit

Back in the day, I used four pedals for improv/wacky stuff that was on the gaze side of things before it was codified.
HM-2 (later first-gen Dano ugly red Daddy-0), Roland RE-301 Chorus Echo (Space Echo with CE-2), DoD 18v Phasor, and a Boss ME-6B mostly for synth filters.
If I wanted deep, deep ugly I had a Yamaha REX-50 (the desktop version of the SPX-90, a staple of the genre at the time) sitting on top of my Space Echo unnoticed).
