Sounds cool enough but very much like Black Sabbath, or like a heavier version of one of those current 60's Psychedelic revival bands maybe.
I don't know much about it all but I'd expect doom te be... heavier...
Yep.
If you want heavy (and instrumental) check out Bongripper.
Came here to say Bongripper. Miserable is on constant rotation for me. Windhand and Witch Mountain are great too.

Quoted for truth.
We call it the Doom Room but I think many of us are just really interested in heavy music or "heavier" music.
Discussions seem to range from bands like Converge who are definitely not doom, to Whores who are also not doom to bands that simply worship Sabbath or bands that are influenced by Sabbath and ten thousand things between.
Doom room is a cool place to be. Kind of interesting to see the different "doom" bands suggested, etc.

Cliche, but Dopesmoker and Dopethrone are the two albums that sold me on doom. Haven't looked back since.

AxAxSxS wrote:That's why I love this. You can not fake it. It's not possible. I'm marginally interested in seeing how the whole doom popularity thing plays out. Dudes that used to wear make up are selling mesa's and buying sunn. But by definition, there is no real formula for this. Sure tune down, turn up, doom out works, but only if you are really feeling what you are doing.
Well, sure, but that's true of every genre of music. Fake shit sounds fake 110% of the time. Anyway I think the doom hype has already passed -- everyone stopped ripping off Isis when Isis broke up, and they couldn't rip of Sleep anymore because Sleep isn't really putting out more material and only have three record's worth of riffs... so now everyone and their mother has a black metal band.
Anyway, OP, you should listen to Ocean and Grief and Buried At Sea for the Doomiest of Doom. But if you're looking for primer material, start with Sleep and The E'Wiz (who are doing a US tour in 2015, incidentally) and Boris' faster stuff. And Bongzilla, and pretty much all the Mans Ruin bands and all the early Small Stone bands and the Rise Above bands and the Meteor City bands and the Leafhound Bands.
Those are all record labels, btw.

Quoted for truth.... 5 years ago I did a black metal project with a few of my now band mates, nobody was interested at all and nobody wanted to play black metal.
Now?
Now theres atleast 7 different ad's for people trying to form black metal bands on Craigslist....

My mother hasn't shown any interest in joining my black metal band.

Yeah but your black metal band is good. I bet she's just itching to join Liturgy.

No mention of the first two Eyehategod albums...
I'm not mad. I'm just disappointed.
OP: Don't get caught up on the is-or-isn't-doom trip. You're gonna miss a lot of good stuff that way. Leave the purist stuff to the people who comment on Metal Sucks.
Some stuff that got me into doom, which was like '91, was stuff like My Dying Bride(1st album and ep) early Anathema, Paradise Lost(first two albums), Grief, 13, Eyehategod, Sleep, Saint Vitus, Solitude Aeternus, Sabbath(of course) and some of the Autopsy stuff would get slow, too. There were not very many options back then. Or internet.
The folks here will be able to recommend a lot of stuff. And there's a lot of different opinions to get you a well-rounded picture of what's out there. Frankly, I can't stand some of the suggestions people gave but they might work really well for you.

Let the music talk for you.
Let each note represent a universe.
Try and listen to as much "doom" as possible, I guarantee you'll find your favourite.

as usual, i stand behind will's post 100%. i had a similar path. although for a lot of the 90's i didn't want to listen to very much of anything slow. i liked a lot of grind core and death metal and d-beat punk and a lot of the punk and hardcore bands that were kind of a part of the DIY explosion of the era. but i did like grief and 13 and eyehategod. and noothgrush. dystopia opened some doors for doom stuff for me. i'm a reasonable person so of course i loved sabbath, but i didn't have too much patience for a lot of the overly sabbathy bands around then. it actually took me a while to come around to sleep. the main riff in the last three minutes of left hand path by entombed is really such a killer doom riff. i'm kind of whatever about the solos, but that riff is so good and really one day got me interested in paying attention to bands that made music that was more like that section of that song.
for the classics, it's really worth mentioning cathedral and candlemass (bewitched is the best music video ever) which haven't been brought up yet.
i tend to lean more towards stuff that is more on the hateful/angry/bleak/sad/serious end of things rather than the stoner dude party music, although my tastes do vary all over the place from band to band. in that vein, i highly recommend checking out mournful congregation, nortt, asunder, evoken, corrupted, ahab, burning witch, katatonia, and skepticism as a short list off the top of my head of bands that haven't been mentioned yet. i'll try and post some videos later if i have time. enjoy

I think the first thing to open the slow and heavy door for me was Neurosis back in high school.
I bought Times of Grace because it was the most interesting looking thing in the metal section of the cd store.
Didn't get into any doom or other sludge for a couple more years, just before Pitchfork discovered Boris. aha.
