Lots of good advice here. I think one of the bigger ones I'd add is to start aiming a little bit higher (further away, angling for support slots at bigger spaces, etc.) on your gigs. Even if you end up in the middle of fucking nowhere playing to no one, it's important to stay a little outside your comfort zone as a live band.

From there, do whatever you like. That last point, though, that's the crucial one.

An ILF tour? Make the US deaf one city at a time.
I have been wanting PRECISELY THIS for about... oh, seven years now?
Srsly. You guys, MUDWEST, The Weaks. Get in the van. Team up with ILF locals as you go. I bet you could work your way up and down the East Coast, easy. I would be more than happy to hook you up with a PVD gig (assuming the timing worked out).
Then hook up with Behndy for a little West Coast tour.
That really would be cool.

jrmy wrote:If you're getting gig-tight, see if you can find anyone with a good mobile (ideally multitrack) recording rig. Play a show, record it all, get a good mix that you can refine in the studio. Whittle it down to a super-tight EP, get a short run of CDs made for cheap with Kunaki.com and put the digital version up on Bandcamp. Also take video of the gig, pick the best song, use the refined multitrack mix as the sound, put it up on Youtub & Vimeo. Use both the vid and the EP to start getting out of town shows. Get merch. Book short tours, in widening areas. Work your way up to New England. Bring Mudwest with you, and play a show in Providence with my band.

thissssssss.
merch, necessary. we had a way easier time talking to new spots after getting something decent recorded and an okay vidja. but i would for sure want to get that ironed out before traveling.
selling 3 tshirts and 5 cds covers gas and most of a day's travel expenditures.
wanna hear your shizzzzzzzz.

Getting ready for the second to last show. Gig with MUDWEST went great. Come see us if you're in the D. Just finished college and I want to play music and get drunk.
