Verellen Meatsmoke pedal is $700. I think that makes it a contender.

Schumann PLL's went for 2 grand back in the day. I think I remember seeing that a crazy rare D*A*M went for like 3 grand once. Also, Toneczar Echoczar is over 800 NEW whenever he decides to make one, nevermind what it goes for on the used market.

How much of the value of any of this stuff actually help any of you make new music vs collecting and tone searching for the sounds of ones childhood heroes? I think that is what always bothers me about high used prices for gear like pedals, like with those green bigmuffs, I love mine but, I bought it new at a guitar center for under $80, I don't see myself selling it because I still use it all the time, but when I see what they go for on ebay I do find it on the silly end of things because of how many people have made copies of the thing... I'm not saying if you feel you need the thing and want to pay the price of a used car for a fuzz pedal you shouldn't, but I do still shake my head at it all abit..

Yeah, I'm definitely not a fan of that kind of shit either, the word bullcrap comes to mind...
Well, to each their own, if someone can and wants to pay those ridiculous prices then good for 'em...

That's how I think about it, too. I just find it interesting to hear about those overpriced and sometimes overhyped pedals and what some guys are willing to pay for them. I think that I will never ever pay 1k for a PEDAL! I'd rather try to build a clone for myself in the case that the GAS level rises too high.

I take the approach where whatever works, works. Whether that's a $30 Behringer pedal or a $500 Strymon, then that's what it takes. However, I think that the crazy prices for vintage gear is stupid and no my thing at all. It's just nostalgia and/or fake "mojo" factor. When it comes to crazy old circuits, I'd much rather go with a cheapo modern clone. But for a lot of the newer digital stuff (like Strymon, as an example), there really is no way to clone that shit and you might need to drop some coin to get what you want (which I did for the Mobius).

Sell, there's a difference between something that is expensive because there is a lot of hardware and software R&D that needs to be paid for (big Strymon stuff. Eventide, etc.) and something that is expensive just because it's rare or old or because of association with specific musicians. The ones from the first category are usually more likely to be useful to get the sounds you want to make your music (and not copy someone else's).

I'm not sure about that to be honest, mostly it's all down to how you use the pedal in question I'd say, for me I felt that I was actually not able to connect with the Strymons and do something of my own with them, they felt quite limiting actually.

There's some Cornish shit going for $900+ right now.
I also recently found out that there are $300+ Cornish guitar cables.

some of that real rare EHX stuff, like the rackmount guitar synths they only made seven of or whatever, has to be up there. Especially if you get in a bidding war with Vincent Gallo over it.

Found it really underwhelming if that's any consolation?
