EHX Germanium OD and Germ4.

I got the first one in a trade here a couple weeks ago and there are a lot of weird textures to be had by turning the bias and volts knobs in different positions. I figure the Germ 4 is related but with two channels and more geraniums/chrysanthemums.

I thought Ben wasn't really building that much lately.

If only he wasn't working for The Man (aka Line6) and could still make his own pedals. ;)

Don't worry, here's a link on how to Kowloon Walled Bunny-ify your distortion:

Also, the ZVEX Machine is an odd duck that certainly has a unique voice. I've got a custom dual fuzz that is Machine -> Fuzzrite and man it is a nasty, raspy, ugly sounding fuzz. The complete fucking opposite of smooth and wooly.

I'm holding out for the KWB plugin. Srsly though, joke all ye want but his job seems pretty great.

Zoom Ultra Fuzz at lower gain settings can do weird things over a range of gate and resonance settings. More interesting here than at full theremin-imitation howl.

For a more bare-bones OD, a silicon Fuzz Face with the volume mod can often do wonderfully touch sensitive overdrive-ish stuff with fuzz down and volume cranked. I've got a pre-production pedal from Joe Gore that he plans to bring out as the Faceless Fuzz that took off from the FF thing with some departures to only start to crack into early New Order-ish grind when you dig in, and when clean it has this kinda crystal-clear vibe, though there's definitely some juice. Really fun pedal to have first and almost always on.

I love the fuzzrite! I'm hoping to build a kit of one when the holidays come around.

Also: are there any sound demos of the kowloon walled bunny? I've been a fan of Kowloon Walled City for a long time but never knew the KWB was just a simple modded pedal. I'm just curious as to how different the sound is compared to a normal OD250/Dist+/Ross distortion.

Oops, one more edit, also curious about that Metalzone mod. Any demos of that too? Might let my friend know about that cus he has an old one lying around.

Pretty sure there aren't any YouTube demos of the KWB.

The difference is that the KWB has socketed diodes. So, it'll sound different depending on which diodes are in there. I have an old Ross w/ germanium diodes and it's warm, saturated and not as loud compared to what I've got in the KWB now. Which is an LED and (I think) a silicon diode, which is brighter, louder and with harder clipping.

The one that nobody gets is the Boss GL-100. It's *every* pre-1989ish Boss distortion/od box in a single rackmount, all analog, MIJ, 2 channel. Parametric EQs that take the HM-2-type sounds to places that NOTHING else does.

Gets amazingly splatty at high gain levels if done "wrong", and has a ridiculous amount of headroom.

<$100 all day long.

I literally could not function without mine, it's the core of my entire rig/sound.

^^^ Damn, that sounds awesome... Furtkamp, I dig how you always come with the deep rack mount craziness.
