...every day I don't want to feel unfit, restless or plain sick. There's a lot of ...zen to it, a lot of hidden depth in playing and I'd compare it to meditation practices. At least I feel closer to Powers from beyond when facing a 600watts rig (but that's another story). Anyhow, that's why I think people might feel bad, unbalanced, when not able to play.

Years ago I decided to learn anew everything and, well, since I was an undergraduate I had plenty of time to play, even practise. Full eight hours a day. I really did, for some time. :animal: Had to learn to do the bass parts AND the metal guitar parts by a bass guitar. And learned the depth of my sucktitude to overcome. And I sure did (would have to slit writ if I didn't with that practising), though I don't hold myself a superskilltastic virtuosoloist par excremence.

With a full time job and a family to support and to take care of I can nowadays hardly play more than one hour a day except for special occasions like sessions with fellow musicians or rehearsing/ preparing something hanging on request. Sometimes the length of the hour or two seems to depend on how much effort is put to getting to play. But even one single hour of practise /doodling around might be the moment of clarity we - or at least I - need to balance ourselves.
