you have learned the one true path
Which is that all dirt is a distant third in importance to delay and reverb.

That's sounds like some cult rhetoric if I ever heard some.

I seem incapable of making an HM-2 sound good.

Thinking the HM-2 magic is amp dependent. They sound great pushed through an old marshall, ampeg, or traynor, but seems to sound like ass running through somthing bright like a vox, hiwatt, or 5150 type, thats been my experience. I keep a peavey bandit around for those tried and true HM-2 tones.

I love the way Mario kicks that mushroom and falls in your avatar. I'm watching it listening to Aen demo the BDSM. It's a pretty rad visual accompaniment really.

Forgot where I found that mario gif, had me cracking up, the idea of a trashed mario puking down a warp tunnel is very amusing. They should implement the concept in a future mario release.

Yep,also poor players just hide behind pedals. Pedals are just gimmick

I use my as a dirty boost with the distortion all the way down. Goroth's right, it needs to push a dirty amp. Otherwise, it's a hissy/farty mess.
I can't make octave fuzzes sound good. I think thy're cool but not for me.

I dunno, I've got an Anarchy Audio HM-2 and I love the way it sounds on my Valvetech Hayseed 30 head (Vox style amp) which is set pretty damn clean.
I play around a lot with the controls too but most of what I get out seems righteously awesome to me, it's one of the tightest, punchiest and most heavy distortions I played so far.

i think the speakers and cabs have a very important role to play here and something to really consider (power amp breakup and speaker breakup...the interaction of both to get that sweet spot before you even bring pedals into the equation)

another example...this marshall solid state...comes with shit stock speaker.
run through any other speaker (or preamp DI with cab sim) ...dialed in right IMO sounded pretty good.

Probably just different strokes for different folks, I tend to like my Hm-2 tones with some bottom end grunt, bright amps seem to bring out a more piercing personality in that pedal, which probably isn't a bad thing as it will help it cut through better.

I usually run my amp on the verge of breakup, and set the Hm-2 to unity, with the eq dimed, and distortion set to 10 o clock, depending on what amp I'm using, which is a traynor yrm-1 lately, I can nail those Brian Izzi/Rotten Sound tonez.
