It certainly didn't help Mastodon that Dillinger opened for them when I saw them. I love DEP, so take this with a grain of salt, but that's not a band you want to have opening for you, even though the two bands are friends.

I'm completely on the same page there with you I think, Crack The Skye is by far my favourite album of theirs, well, I don't like any of it anymore after seeing them live though to be honest.
Funny to hear that more people have had such a lacking experience while going to see Mastodon live, I thought that maybe I was going crazy or that the fact I saw Isis a few months earlier, which in contrast is one of the best Rock bands I've ever seen live, had something to do with it.
That said, when I saw Mastodon the vocals were crap and sometimes hardly hearable, they all stood there like a bunch of potato bags and I'm pretty sure Brent forgot a good part of his more intricate guitar parts, at least it didn't sound close to what it was like on the record, there weren't that many people in the audience rocking out either, mostly they just stood there and went "Uhh, wut, okayyy, next" like my cousin and I did.
It really looked like it had turned into a day job band between the first time and the second time I saw them. Which is fair, because, you know, it did.
Of course, I've seen Isis turn in a super boring performance too, so no one's immune.

Yah Dillinger will tear a venue down, they bring tons of energy. Will also agree that gojira is absolutely massive live. They opened for mastodon a few years back and me and most of the crowd seemed to agree that mastodon didn't belong on the same stage. Also noticed the guys in gojira use no effects.

Eh, don't care too much. I think it'll be funny to watch fans get weirded out by the vid. But really can say I would like to like Mastodon, cause them butt metal toans, but really I only like Leviathan.

I just stopped by to say that I can confirm Gojira's power and dominance.

If you name yourself after the great nuclear death lizard himself, you better bring it. Or else I would be disappointed in you.

Love Leviathan, Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye all the same
Never liked Remission
Enjoyed Hunter quite a lot
Enjoyed the new one even more - not as much as the holy trinity, but still
yes - Mothership is probably my least favourite track off the record... But there are things that reach the stars for me as well (Ember City anyone?)

I was a big fan for a long time, loved Remission and saw them touring for Leviathan and Blood Mountain, and used to look forward to new albums from them...I couldn't even make it through the newest one.

I like the new record, but I also thought that The Hunter was pretty rad. I came into Mastodon during Blood Mountain times, so that's still my preferred record.
Wasn't into Crack The Skye at all. Seemed like so much self-indulgent prog.

The vocals are shitty, and the video is so bad, it's funny. I'm in the "being campy and 2014" camp.
This is a heavy pop song.
Light on the heavy though.

Speaking of heavy pop, should check out the last 35 seconds of the track Aunt Lisa, this is the steaming pyle of dogshit that really ruins this album for me, most of the other songs I enjoy. Aunt Lisa link below...
