Re: What's the most you would pay for a fuzz pedal
Jumping on the $200-300 train. I have a feeling whatever jwar is up to, I'd likely pay up to $300 for it.

500 for a ramshead. Because I'm stupid.
300 for something new and real tasty.
I prefer one truck ponies as opposed to versatility though ...because I'm stupid.

Though I'd totally probably pay more if I could, for this one I'm gonna say somewhere in the $200 TO $250 range depending on how fancy it ends up being.

Re: What's the most you would pay for a fuzz pedal
to be fair Fuzz to me is one of the most basic effects, so it has to be two or more of the following to attract me:
1 - extremely well made (even more so if top $$$ )
2 - aesthetically pleasing
3 - quality build; most fuzz I can build myself. To warrant a purchase, it has to be of good or better quality than I can make myself. Lets face it most fuzzes are simple circuits.
4 - have something unique about it, or a good set of features.
but other people love fuzz more and cant make their own stuff so take my biases with a pinch of salt
i know thy guy that runs Stone Deaf (PDF-1 fame) he has just launched 2 new dirt pedals and already he is questioning if they are priced too high
they are fairly unique, great sounding, custom made screenprinted cases (not just hammond boxes) and he is (I guess) struggling to make a good margin on them.

Re: What's the most you would pay for a fuzz pedal
So here's what i can tell you. Quality will be high, graphics will be amazing, this is being developed by my good friend Roy from Greenhouse Effects, so it will be unique.
The circuit will be smd, around 100 components on board. So most likely not easy to DIY. Surface mounted pots , high quality jack and maybe relay bypass (that's a big maybe though), at least initially.
It will be thick, meaty and you will have a lot of tonal control. Jeff knows what I'm up too and he's going to demo.
The price point is what I wanted to see how people felt about it.
More details when it's done!!
I do love hearing how people feel about pricing. It helps a lot.

Re: What's the most you would pay for a fuzz pedal
Off topic (not really), I've got a PDF-1 and the demos I've heard of the new pedals do sound pretty great. I'm interested in 'em, but, yeah, their price is a little off putting to me. Not that they're not worth the money, but they're not something I could easily afford. Especially because to take full advantage of those pedals you really need to also buy the proprietary expression pedal (which, btw, looks very sturdily built like a tank.), but adds to the base price. They need to come out with some simple pedals with mass appeal to augment their current awesome offerings.Gigahearts_FX wrote:

150 - 200$
But if it's very unique and cool > 300$

There was a shop that sold turquoise rings. Sales weren't going very well so the shop owner wrote some instructions for an employee to reduce the price by 25%. Due to some sort of miscommunication, the employee actually raised the price by 25%. The rings sold out.

It's already been said but you've gotta find your nearest competitor and price it in relation to that.
But sounds good Jwar, can't wait to hear some demos. It'd better be guitar friendly though... Goddamn bassists...

Re: What's the most you would pay for a fuzz pedal
I won't pay more for hand-built, vegan construction. I just don't care.
Sure, I love small builders - but I don't pay a massive premium for them.
Price on this sort of thing keeps dropping in real dollar, and for fuzz, if it's more than a hundred, I have to think about it because chances are the ballpark of sound is capturable in something else - and the true irony of the market is if it isn't a Muff or some safe clone-based circuit it's not going to sell for the top end of figures.
In that respect, the folks here are like TGP guys chasing TS-808s, If it was cheap and nasty and unwanted in the 90s, top dollar is paid. Otherwise, no bueno.
Also a case these days that the last unfinished modelling frontier is dirt - the minute that is done successfully, especially with weirder circuits, the market is going to slam shut and get even more. Standard stuff is pretty decent now in the new generation of boxes, but oscillating spitting weird I haven't yet seen in a modeled fuzz.

Re: What's the most you would pay for a fuzz pedal
Should add that for the *right* thing, the sky is the limit. I've paid up to $600 for effects without batting much of an eye if that's what it takes. I have to budget and plan for that, but I could go higher if I *needed* to.
No feature set, etc. though I can't say what that is.
I will not pay extra for cosmetics, etching, etc. on even a hand-built product I didn't commission myself.
If I wanted something like that specifically, I'd pay the market rate for having it done but I'm not much of an appearance guy (or I would cringe at say my Joyo Ultimate Octave).
