We all feel like that from time to time, though.
That's why you can go anywhere in the world and bump into someone from Brisbane.

I've spent a lot of time in the States (but never more than six months at a time) and travelled around a bit but have lived - mostly happily - in Australia all my life. Like a lot of people my folks came from somewhere else (England and Italy) to start anew in "The Lucky Country". As others have already said, there's some bad that goes with the good, but generally it's a fine place to be. Rural areas are different to urban areas and the coast is very different to inland Oz so you should probably at least pay us a visit before you dive in. Having said that, I know a nice family from Texas - with three little kids - who just up and moved here a few years back, never having been anywhere near the place before, and they love it here. They still have to import their favourite hot sauce but otherwise they get by okay.
It can feel a little isolated at times (which again can be good and bad) and it's a fucking long way away from the rest of the world but we're in a good position to absorb a lot of cultural influences - from the UK, the States and Asia, for example - while still maintaining a culture of our own. Yes, our politicians suck balls, but politicians pretty much suck balls all over the world. Your best bet is to ignore them and spend as much time at the beach as you can.
Don't forget we operate on 240 volts down here and there'll be a lot of bureaucratic hoops to jump through to organise working visas and all that shit, but even if you only last a year or two it'll still be fun.

Ah fuck, I forgot about the Ibis.
Cunt bird.
And backpackers.
I heard a statistic once that 80% of backpackers fuck someone within 24 hours of landing here.
Which would be great if they weren't all walking cesspools of disease, lice and alcoholism.
At least we put them to work as slave labour on lychee farms.
That's something.

I remember reading an article a few years back that said Australia had the most promiscuous women according to their polls or research or whatever. So it's got that going for it.

When I think of "backpacker" I think of "tourist." Or at least someone who's visiting a foreign country on a budget. I get the impression that what you're talking about is different.......

^ Specific kind of tourist, usually young, usually Irish, English, Swedish or some other "ish", usually pissed and obnoxious. Can be found sleeping in rented Kombi vans or spewing in streets around Kings Cross, Bondi, Manly, etc.

Hopefully you'd develop an Aussie accent, everyone loves them for some reason.
Though it just makes you sound like you have a lisp or just slur alot.

its a beautiful country. most people are nice...you either embrace the culture (and why wouldnt you...work,bludge,drink,sun,surf,sheilas...) or not...
jobwise ...do do you have any trade skills/ or other qualifications?
stuff can be expensive, but we pay for our high standard of living.
any idea where about is australia you a looking at?
rents are high and prices of property are also high, but interest rates have been low for a while.
music gear, or tickets to see overseas bands...bend over and open up your wallet.

Perth is a great place to grow up and an ok place to settle down (*dependant on when/how you have started your nest)
inbetween...its debatable. stuff is expensive unless you are part of the FIFO (fly in fly out mining culture earning the big bucks)
