So it turns out they didn't send me the wrong thing. Those plates are actually barely darker than normal chrome. The picture in their store is really misleading. Fuckers.

So I'm back at square one now

Get them powdercoated. You could spray paint them, but that isn't going to be very durable.

It shouldn't be too hard to convince a company that does powdercoating to add your three plates to their next run of black. I think you can powdercoat over chrome, but you will have to scuff the whole surface to remove the shine, so the new finish has something to grip.

You will want to do all of the prepwork yourself if you want to save money.

gonna try to make new control plates tomorrow, mine are hella dirty so I got to clean them and then paint them somehow

I cleaned the shit out of the plates, they were really dirty. Then I got some primer and oil paint and painted em. I think they turned out really well!
