Re: Tone advice!
I have a swollen pickle. I've had it for a while when I had a different head. Now I have this Randall high gain amp and for some reason it hates the swollen pickle. After about a week of just playing through the pickle I got tired of it. Maybe too many knobs...
But that was before I got my rat with the lm308.
I'll give it a shot. The answer might have been sitting in front of my face!!
I'm trying to sell it for cash to fund a BAT... Maybe that's why I don't fuck with it... Because I already know it's on it's way out...
I'll give it one more chance tho... See what happens...

I gotta catch Black Tar Prophet still -- heard great things. Yeah, the scene here is tight-knit but pretty small. It's gaining steam, as far as I can tell.

Re: Tone advice!
Ok, so after toying around with the pickle and rat for a couple of hours I've decided that I'm going to keep the pickle. I ran it in front of the rat using the rat to give it some extra rich boost. I think it all works together pretty well (the randall century 170 high gain amp with the pickle and the rat played through a schecter 7 string damien).
Ideally, I would rather have a sunn coliseum lead... But oh well

Have you played much with the eq? or is it set that way because: needs more bass.
I'd try less bass on the amp eq and a little more treble, with a 7-string. Sometimes more bass just means more mud.

Re: Tone advice!
Yeah so I'm I think I'm going to try and sell the pickle for a pharaoh.
OR, I could maybe sell the '84 rat for the funds... They are selling pretty high these days....
But then I would regret it...
Later on down the road I might try one of those MXR eq's. Maybe an MXR M-135 smart gate too...
But yeah, a pharaoh..

Re: Tone advice!
And yeah I have messed around with the amps eq. It needs the bass turned all the way or it's too sharp and thin. The bass gives it some bottom end at least. The swollen pickle stacked with the rat is helping, but I know the pharaoh will work better...
Thanks dudes for all your advice...

There's a pharaoh in bst right now.
The black sheep is based on the bee baa, which has lots of lows.
Do eminence 75s sound like celestion 75s? Because those celestions sound thin to me.
Does your clean tone need more lows?
Do you use your neck pickup?
I suggested the pickle for its abundance of lows. And while it does have a few different decent sounds, none of them really stand out to me as being great. Any bat and a rat should deliver.

Re: Tone advice!
Not sure about the celestial 75's. The lady lucks came with the cab. I wish I could get swamp thangs personally...
My clean channel sounds louder than my dirty channel. I think my head needs to be tuned up. The mid knob crackles a lot when I fuck with it.
I use both pickups too. I switch it up.
The pickle sounds ok with this amp. But that's the problem. I need it to sound great.
I think this guy at work will trade my pickle for his big muff bass muff. That has a toggle with a deep bass setting...

Re: Tone advice!
I would not make that trade, duder.
I'm not really sure that the Bass Big Muff will give you the lowend that you don't seem to be finding with the Swollen Pickle. Have you tried using the Pickle by itself?

I wouldn't take that trade. The bass muff is decidedly mediocre and the pickle is really rad/flexible

Re: Tone advice!
lady lucks are great speakers, if you decide to sell those there is two of us on here that would be on those like stink on shit.
I had a century 170 randall and ive had the 200 and they're not all that bassy imo. that cabs already wired to 4 ohms so what I would do is find a 70s SS bass amp head for cheap (think kustom, acoustic, maybe sunn) or a modern ss bass head (carvin b500 is a GREAT pedal platform)
however this is my advice to run a cheap, loud and bassy as fuck pedal platform. if you want to build off of amp distortion and are stuck on trying to sqwwwwek every ounce of bass out of those I would grab a bass eq pedal before trying new fuzz IF you like the swollen pickle.

Ditto on what whiskey said. I also owned the century 170 he had for a while, just not a bassy amp. Always ended up turning the treble all the way off.

Re: Tone advice!
I found this on craigslist. What do you guys think?
http://nashville.craigslist.org/msg/4547068251.html
Also, I might put the century up for sale on eBay or reverb. How much do you think they are going for these days?
I also really want this but I don't have the cash
