Boss dd-7 is great.
What about the little empress tape delay?

I bought an older MIJ Ibanez DL10 and I really like it.

You should look into getting two cheaper pedals. If you can fit a dd20 then you can fit a dd7 and a small analog delay. The dd 7 or any of the series can be had for cheap used and all are dope. Plus with the dd7 you get a decent tap tempo analog delay and crisp digital that ca. Do stutter stuff too. Pair that up with an analog delay like the Malekko 616 or a carbon copy and set that for a washer sound.
If you shop used you can find both for under 200 and have two sounds on tap at all times. Plus you can move then around and have one predirt or whatever you want

This is what I was thinking. The DD-7 is one of the few affordable digital delays that I can hear the difference between all the modes. My bandmate has one and he loves it. There are a bunch of them used on Guitar Center's website for like 80-90 bucks.

Yes man the dd7 is great and the analog is not that bad. Paired with another analog delay you can cover basically all your grounds.
I use it with either a 616 or a diamond quantum leap and the only thing I really feel like I'm missing out on is tape sounds, which are cool but not a necessity for me.

Oh man I forgot about the quantum leap
Dat harmonic mode

Bonus for the DD-7, the short delay mode is very similar to the LAL Misty Cave in my experience, only I prefer the DD-7 sounds. Gets you some awesome metallic overtones.
Now I wish I still had my DD-7

A couple of good ideas, thnks again.
The two pedal idea does make a lot of sense, for some reason I didn't think of that myself
It'd save me both valueble pedalboard space as well as hard earned cash if I first get something like a DD-7, and find out that the analog mode is good enough for my needs.
If it's not, I could get a used carbon copy, and I'll still save a coule bucks in the whole downgrade operation. So yeah, that's worth taking in consideration for sure, thanks for the tip.
The diamond Memory Lane Jr seems sweet as well though, I'll have to check some demos to see if the modulation can convince me to compromise on the stuff I'd miss out on when not going the DD7+carbon copy route...
The quantum leap: Haven't checked any clips of that one either, though it seems like it's packed with a bunch of extra effects that I already have covered, at the cost of some delay options that the memory lane jr does seem to offer.

Yeah, they're easy to come by and an overal great bang for the buck it seems. I'm kind of a Boss fan boy, and I still regret selling my DD-5. The reverse mode alone was worth the price:(
I don't suppose you (or anyone else) ever tried it side by side with a Hardwire DL8 though? All I know so far is that one is true bypass and slightly cheaper, and the other one's got slightly longer delay times...

If sound quality is important, go analog or go home. Have a Vox Delaylab and a EHX Memory toy. The Delaylab has crap-tons of options but in a head to head the Memory toy sounded better. It wasn't something that I would notice in a recording, especially a youtube video, but live in front of my amp, Memory toy hands down.

I never really found much of a distinction between a delay being analog or digital. It really just comes down to the builders vision and quality. I used to have a Diamond Memory Lane 2 (one of the best delays I've played) and honestly still prefer my ILF Day Delay and thought the Timeline sounded even better than it. It really comes down to a quality build in my book, not analog vs. digital.

Pretty much my delay philosophy too.
Some days I prefer cripsy clean digital delays that convincingly reproduce chopped up bits of what I'm playing. Other days I like more analog voiced delays. But there's probably a ton of digital pedals that cover those sounds good enough for me personally, to the point where the differences would be neglectable, even in a blindfold test. Even if I'm wrong, and a Maxon AD999, or Moof MF104 or Schretcho does sound noticeable 'better' than the analog modes on a superdelay/moog/strymon/eventide...I guess I'm just not enough of an analog delay fan to spend that much money on something that doesn't have a looper, reverse mode, tap tempo, 2000ms delays, differrent modulation options, etc...
Have to admit, the DM-3 I owned sounded fantastic, but I can't say I have a lot of other analog delays to compare it too. With analog delays, aside from maybe optional modulation, it probably just comes down too how dark or mushy you like your repeats. So imo it's more of a personal taste thing rather than anything else. I dig a dark and mushy repeat that's not too muffled or degenerated so it won't dissapear in a loud band or whatever.
The bang for the buck thing was the whole reason I sold the DM-3. I just couldn't justify keeping it on my overflowing pedalboard just for slapback delays, not when I also had a DL-4, wich did okay analog delay sounds AND a ton of other stuff.

Okay dude I actually ditched my VMSD for the exact same reasons you didn't like yours. You should check out Empress' Tape Delay. It's what I bought to replace the VMSD. It sounds great and can be really clean, or not really clean. also has tap tempo, long delay times, you can daisy chain it (although mine really likes the first power slot, it gets a little noisy otherwise), the oscillation sounds great. It really just kinda does everything I wanted it to while being in a small package. I've had mine for almost a year or so. I also have a DD7 because I missed mine after selling it. The DD7 is more mechanical sounding and has a nice looper on it. It can also do reverse. Also stacking delays is fun.

^Okay...now we're talking:)
My radar never picked up on the Empress Tape Delay for some reason. Maybe cause the name made me assume it's a one trick pony, focused only at gimmicking a tape delay sound
I'll check some demos later, but so far the specs and info seem to confirm what you're saying...A pretty versatile unit. And since the basic sound qualities of my VMSD is the only thing I'd really miss, it'd be a huge bonus to know upfront that I'm getting the same quality in a more user friendly pedal. So yeah, thanks for the tip:)
BUT...There's still a couple of tricks it doesn't do, and it's a bit bulky and pricey for the Two Delay Pedals -plan...:s
I mean, it doesn't seem to cover a lot of reverse/swell/hold sort of stuff, but at the same time it might be kinda overkill as an analog delay...Right?

It really doesn't do any of the fancy things the VMSD does, but that's why I like it. I'm not sure what you mean by bulky, it's not a small pedal but it's definitely not big either. If you like the sound of the VMSD you'll like the sound of the tape delay. I'm not sure I understand what you mean in the last sentence, the tape delay is definitely not analog
