It'd be better if it had multiple channels methinks.
Sounds alright but I'd be pretty disappointed if i spent $400 on something only to end up using it as a 'thickener' or a faux fuzz pedal.

Also, JHS.

I don't know, I think it sounds horrible in most video's I saw and just decent in the PGS video, more like a really shitty overdrive / fuzz than like a great Neve preamp.

Shadiness/controversy aside, It's a cool idea and there are numerous options for toneshaping.
It's actually the first JHS pedal whose layout/looks are a homerun.
If you're viewing this as $400 for an overdrive/eq then yeah, it's about $150-200 too much.
I like how it uses a Lundahl input transformer...they aint cheap...but this pedal is still about $100 overpriced.
For $470 you can get an Effectrode Blackbird which is one hellova preamp/DI...with the added benefit of rolling tubes to further shape its sonic character...

If you want a 1073 pre or anything close to it, you can get one for about $800, in rackmount or lunchbox format.
The Colourbox is not a Neve pre. It attempts to emulate a bit of the coloration from the Neve and REDD channel strips, clean or driven.
But *the real thing* is a whole other beast, entirely.

I've wanted to post this a million times elsewhere, but never did. so, here.

I actually love the look and idea of this thing. Butt, as many have stated before:

that aside, here's the thing: you're never gonna get those 'straight to the board' guitar tones, through a guitar amp. not gonna happen. Is it a cool preamp, mic pre, tone shaper thingy? yeah def.

butt.

guitar amps have a natural treble roll off around 6kHz. otherwise they'd sound like jabbing an ice pick in your ear drums. going guitar - preamp/board - recording medium sounds a LOT different than guitar - preamp - guitar amp. the 12" speakers just don't have the highs. I've tried. I had several mock ups and prototypes of neve-esque preamps with transformers and such in pedal form, which all sounded great as mic preamps but did not reproduce that Beatles Revolution tone through an amp, even with a ton of treble EQ and tweaking.

so hey, buyer beware, if you want 'straight to board' fuzz tones with a guitar amp, install tweeters in yo' amp or run to the PA.

I was mostly interested in this for vocal stuff, but also guitars and anything else I could cram through there. The demos sound really nice to me :idk:
But not for that price.
I know their supposedly shady business practices and weird cult don't really affect me, but I would still feel dirty every time I looked at that pedal and knew I'd contributed to them.

Plus there's only one KVLT welcome around here.

I'm going to contact them and see if they want Acid Splashed pedals. Fuck it. They're local, I'm local, go God. Yea. Let's make money.

Religious cults get a bad name, but they really aren't that bad. I grew up in Jonestown and I turned out ok.

I shouldn't talk to much about (on the internet) this but I have a personal involvement in this one. I was there opening day for reasons I'd rather not say on the net. Needless to say I no longer go there.

I just watched the video from JHS. Dude seems nice enough, so I shouldn't talk shit on his stuff as I haven't tried it, but that "church", yea...it's not cool.
