I always viewed the Magicstomp as an SPX-90 pedal of sorts--some stuff extra, some stuff less. If Yamaha did a Magicstomp III with MIDI (even over USB sans Mac/Win host) and expression, I'd be happy to give them the bucks for that. Better if they threw in the full Soft Focus patch and some of their newer amp and distortion modeling, oh, and stereo I/O, but I'm not sure they have any thought of getting back in that game at all.
(If Alesis also wanted to pack legacy algorithms into a well featured guitar pedal . . . )

yeah, i wanna hear a demo because that modulation section and the multi-tap function seem like they could add up to some really interesting sounds.
i think the price kinda makes sense, it looks like it's supposed to be a higher quality thing than the delaylab with the preamp and all. there's a video on the korg site but it's not even worth posting because its just some dude talking about the Edge for a couple of minutes and attempting to play U2 songs.
i actually think it looks pretty sexy too, for some reason.

Yea, with their purchase of L6, I doubt they'll go back there.
If you want a cheap SPX-90 and don't care about form factor, get a REX-50. It's the tabletop version of the era.

I would so be down, Qverb in a pedal alone....sign me up. Add a MVerb 2/4 combo....and I"d spend way too much money.

I keep forgetting that. Oddly, Yamaha is pushing their THR living-room appropriate modelers at the same time that L6 is pushing their living-room appropriate modeler. It could be interesting to see how vertical integration or lack thereof continues to play out.

I'm assuming they go after both markets - L6 seems to be gunning for the iOS stuff, which isn't as dominant in non-US markets - and the THR stuff seems to me to be a Japanese/Asian market item that is being made so someone will sell it here.

I actually think that this won't have a "cool enough" look for the P&W guys. i bet it looks "too digital" for their liking. If korg was smart, they would've put it in a wooden box and put the word "analog" all over it. or maybe just pay one of those famous P&W guitarists to take a few pics of it on their board. then it'd sell like hotcakes.

naaah it's an excellent way how to "justify" the price

i dug it until seeing it was (probably more than) twice what i'd pay for one. bummer korg, so many other things you've done of late have been badass and at great prices...

Yeah, for me it's mainly about the simplicity to cool to price ratio as well. With the price obviously being a factor too.
In this cathegory, I'd say a Line6 comes out pretty good, except it fails in terms of price to reliability+overal fidelity ratio.
Superdelay: The best sounding digital delay in the bizz imo, and it's actually relatively cheap for the sounds and options you get in such a versatile yet board-friendly pedlol. But the complicity and user unfriendlyness just ruin it

Eventide/Strymon: Way too spensive.
Obviously havne't heard this new Korg yet, but so far it looks like it's total nightmare to operate, it's the size of a hocky field, and costs as much as four delaylabs. Pass.
Haven't tried the Flashback X4 yet, probably should at one point.

I don't mind the complexity. I am sure there is a bit of a learn in curve but I doubt it's really that hard to figure out. That guy from Andertons seemed to think it was pretty straight forward in their demo. Price is a bit on the steep side since I don't really care about all those other modes. I just want the sdd mode... Unless those other algorithms turn out to be good as well.

I'm in a compact&cheap phase right now anyway, and it doesn't look like that'll change anytime soon. I don't see myself going back to a big modeler for a while, I'd be more than happy with a DL-8 plus a good analog-ish delay with mod and long delay times. Come to think of it, that'd cost me as much if not more than something like a SuperDelay

I guess the superdelay is more compact. About the same price new but the sdd-3000 is deeper. Superdelay is simpler. Kind of why I sold it a long time ago. Wanted to have more control tone and modulation of the delay repeats. The toggle switches didn't offer that or stereo. It did sound pretty good though.

I think this a cynical reconfiguration by Korg of their Vox DelayLab cos it didn't sell very well. This Korg is cheaper to make, retails for more, and allows them to market the vintage reissue and Edge-related aspects.
