There are a lot on craigslist that go for 500 tops; mine was 400. I think the low price is what contributes significantly to it being an awesome amp, so to spend almost twice as much for it doesn't seem like the wisest of moves imo. But, given your situation, I understand the desire to want it and would probably do the same thing.
Thank being said, I love mine. I recently found out that mine was not stock, and had some added components to give it some more gain-not bogner territory-but not quite stock-sounding so I cant speak on how the cleans are. However, there is a lot of room in the chassis for mods, of which there are a lottttttt. It's easy to dial in a thick, full sound.
This amp is loud. Blows my Bassman 100 out of the water. My buddy has to really crank his th100 to keep up. But the volume is not very dynamic. For mine its either off or loud, which is why I'm currently having a master volume installed.
Additionally, it's suggested you get one made pre 1972 (I think) since that's when the original owner left the company and a lot of inconsistencies in production began to emerge.
Hope you can find one for a killer price because it is indeed a killer amp.
