my london city was 350 EUR - but about 6 years ago. No idea how they sell now. But more money is too much for the build quality... Same for Sound City and Sovtek stuff imho.DarkAxel wrote:ahh, see - we never got out of the expensive tube amp phase here in europe (for the most part)
seen some used Sound Citys sold locally - one went for 1000€. That's way over 1000 bucks lol
never seen any cheap used Peaveys in my life here in CZ

Um yeah, well it seems to me that there's this very hard-set "valve = expensive" mentality :/
Especially in CZ, I think it might be better in other states
be don't get too many beater amps around here essentially

Are Sovteks capable of being squeaky-clean?

No idea how old the tubes are. Preamp are all Sovtek 12ax7lps and powers are Sovtek 6l6wxt with a fender stamp on them. I have JJ 12ax7s and JJ 6l6gcs on the way. The amp definitely needs that new tube pop and sizzle. Next is building a head shell for it. I've been wanted to do this for years so I'll give that a go. Green Panama tolex? Yes I will.

Mine stays pretty clean up to the loudest the amp gets (which is pretty loud), then you get grittier cleans after that.

Re: NEW AMP DAY Sovtek Mig 50
I use the 100w and 50w bass versions. They're both Bassman based, and have a huge, full sounding clean. Not much distortion until you start to push the power amps.
My 50w is NMV, too.
If you look for the regular Mig50 or 100, you should be ok. Even the high gain 50H and 100H can do a cleanish tone when you plug into input 2.

I have new sovtek 6l6wxt+ running in my mig. They sound good, but they are also one of the few options you have with those insane voltages.

Very jealous of your bass versions. I was hoping that my Mig would be more bass friendly, but alas, it is not
