Cheap and high gain? Try the Danelectro Fab Tone. Too much gain, most say. Has a Bass and Treble control. Not true bypass, but you can usually get them pretty cheap on the bay. I modded mine for true bypass fairly easily.

run a compressor into a Boss metal zone into a sonic maximizer, all three of those should be cheap on e-bay/Guitar Center Used Pile. don't worry about true bypass or not because if you need br00tulzuh, then you need it all the time. Clean Signals are for jazzers.

Don't forget that more louder puts more bruut up your all. Any Massive High Gain Device will sound shit in a band environment unless its LOUD.

- A couple of good suggestions I'll have to look into.

- A couple nice ones that are over my budget. The elements would probably be my first choice if I were half serious about playing metlol.

- Volume is everything, totally agree there.

-Still waiting for someone to give me a good review on that Blackstar pedal.

:hello:

The Tonebone Hot British is the nastiest high gain pedal I've come into contact with. It's the only distortion pedal I've heard that can really give you that mega-sustainy liquid lead sound that I've only heard from actual high gain amps. I don't know how much they are now, but more complicated models have been put out, so they might have gone down. Probably more than you want to spend, though. Also, it's noisey as a motherfucker.

Not really the same thing, but the Idiotbox dungeon master is really nice sounding in a doomy way.

Just checked a couple clips. REALLY impressive piece of kit, but totally overkill for me in terms of size, price, as well as features/options. Plus, it seems like it does the hot rodded Plexi thing a lot better than the sort of tight super high gain crap I'm after...

Yeah, I like to give Radial free advertising sometimes because I've had the thing for like 13 years and put a million miles on it before I finally got an actual high gain amp. It still works fine - even outlasted its own power supply. :o

Felt the need to point out, that The Elements is so much more than a "metlol" pedal. It does that well yes, but it also buffers, boosts, eq's, and will even make ya breakfast if you're smooth enough ;)

Black star is fine. It's big, expensive, has a stupid psu. But it sounds pretty good. I think the death metal sounds better.

Vesta Fire / Vestax DST Distortion is my go to for a cheap, high gain. Like everything a Metal Zone should have been.

Truth.

Took me awhile to step away from the high gain side of the The Elements but I eventually did. The clean boost, low, and medium gain settings are every bit as impressive. Best sounding most versatile distortion pedal ever imo, by a longshot.

Death Metal sounds better than Triple rectifier.
I recorded it. I have proof. Clips possible if needed.
