I have the Zoom CDR too but it doesn't have a dedicated compressor, so I'm not sure whether it would be possible to achieve the Soft Focus effect.

I made a close approximation on my M13. The compressor is the important part.
I've tinkered with my Magicstomp a bit and I wondered what settings should be used for the symphonic effect. .It seems as if the sine wave is most effective.
Also, I don't think it's possible to use the symphonic effect with reverb, delay and compressor simultaneously. So I have tried using the reverb -> symphonic setting along with other pedals to provide compression and delay.

Today I reached a good approximation of the softfocus with my zoom g5, I think it can work with the g3 too!
I can upload the patch when I'll buy a new laptop!

It's combination of effects/Yamaha FX500 patch that is associated with Slowdive.

Magicstomp is a bit fascist about available effect order. You can get reverb into Symphonic but not anything else of the front of that chain. If you have your own compression and delay to bring to the party, though, that could probably get you close to Soft Focus. It makes sense why the FX500 is surging a bit, though.
Dramatis, if you could give a quick description of your Zoom setting, too, I'd appreciate it. I've got an MS-100BT inbound, and I don't think it does patch sharing.

The Magicstomp is definitely a good investment if you want some of the effects associated with early 90s Shoegaze (early reflections, reverse gate, symphonic, etc) but if you really want the Soft Focus patch the FX500 is really the only option.

Ok:
the chain is:
HD reverb 100% mix (it isn't 100% wet) + Comp + Stereo Chorus + Mod Delay + Hd Reverb 100%+ Tape Delay
