I just realized I don't think I've ever bought a new cab.

The closest I've ever came was the first Krank Krankenstien I got. I bought it off the guy who bought it brand new. He used it in my band for a year then stored it at my place for a year and a half while I used it. Then I just bought it so I didn't have to bring it to him
.

How about an old used sunn cab? I traded for one on a whim and it brought my Fender Deville to life. Sounds great and is loud as fucking balls.

Yea those don't come up for cheap. if you do find one for cheap you are lucky and it's rare.

I respect your authority on all things cab, sir, but I must object. There are some good options, that sound gnarl when paired with 12" cabs.
Ampegs is good.
But I don't know if that's capable on elk's budget in the states. Certainly wouldn't be here.

Also hookers.

Thanks for the input, y'all. I've got a line on a couple of Peavey cabs, and I'm heading out after work tomorrow to check out (and hopefully buy) the older one with G12K-85s. The Laney should arrive over the weekend, so hopefully next week I can post a for-real shot of my rig over on the rig thread.

Also, my wife was patiently amused by your encouragement to reconsider hookers.

Nice. Hopefully it'll work out for you.

I remember seeing Vital Remains actually playing guitar through 2 Ampeg 810's It actually sounded great. The last time I saw them they weren't running that set up.

Yeah....old Peavey cabs are the shit. I scored an old 2x15 for 100 bucks and it's replacing my Mesa cab that I can offload for 500 or so. Huzzah!

I should've put "imho" or in my experience. ive never found a 10" bass cab that sounded good on guitar. course I might also have a tin ear.

Haha! I have tinitus, so maybe its me that's fucked.
Like I said though, Ampegs don't generally come on the cheap, so its a moot point anyway.
I think it depends on your amp, as well.
I probably wouldn't run that setup on a 6L6 power section.

I disconnected the tweeter and rewired a behringer 4x10 to use with guitar. It sounds decent mixed with other cabs but its no where near as efficient :idk:

That is true, there is a loss there.
