Oh my gawd, I have never had that happen. I have had the opposite, though - once a soundguy came onstage after we soundchecked and CHANGED MY TONE KNOBS when I wasn't looking. That was a little annoying.

They would have had to find another sound guy if it had been me.

Worse sound person I ever cam across was the singers girl friend.
Had the singer extremely loud and you couldn't hear the guitar player's lead at the back of the room. She said her boy friend was “the Star” who every body came to see and the guitar player didn't matter.

My niece told me about their sound guy who kept turning down he bass amp because it distorted, then said it was because of her having bad pickups. she turned the amp completely off and he said that the mix was perfect.

Give me a pro sound person any day.

Ah, I know. My bassist uses the Cherry Pop and whenever she kicks it in the sound guys is like    and we have to tell him to turn the shit back up. Mostly we've dealt with cool dudes who understand the feedback and shit, but everyone thinks bass is just a background thing.

Yeah, well, he didn't totally kill my tone... and he was the guy who booked the club... so I let discretion be the better part of valor that day.

I hear you on pro sound people - I used to work concert crew in college, and we were only there for setup. The sound was run by a pro audio company who did things like tour support for touring bands, and live sound for jazz festivals in New Orleans - those guys were GOOD. There's a world of difference between someone who had to apprentice and train for years for the position, and the average dope pushing faders at a local club. Don't get me wrong - every now and then you'll get someone who knows what they're doing, but they're usually the exception to the rule around here.

OH, WAIT - I amend my earlier statement about never having a soundguy take the time to listen to me. The one time my band got to play at the Iron Horse, in Northampton, MA - that soundguy was FANTASTIC. Took his time getting everything right, didn't try to mess with us, didn't give us guff. Got a great house sound, and a great monitor sound (that's a WHOLE separate rant), with time to spare before the show.

Of course, then the booking guy tried to screw us out of our money for the show, and when I insisted on us being paid what he had told us he'd pay, he told me that was the last time we'd play there ( )... oh, well...
